Crappy film
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
When I first saw warlock 3 I knew Julian Sands wasn't in it and I had an attitude about it right from the start because I am very fond of Julian Sands and have seen nearly every movie he's been in.To me it's his character and seeing someone else in the role was gonna ruin it for me.Well I was right and my fears were realized.I hated the movie.I didn't know the reason why Sands wasn't in it but they had to go and get another blond British much older actor who resembled Julian a little.I just could not deal with it and was angry for the longest time and swore I would never ever buy it or see it again. Well bits and pieces of the movie came to mind every now and then and for some reason,I really liked the witchcraft scenes and wanted to see them again but I didn't bother because after time I forgot about it. I do own warlock 1 & 2 on DVD and like them both equally because they are 2 completely different stories and this was enough.By the time I thought of seeing warlock 3 again it was long out of print so I figured no one else liked it much either so I left it alone. About a week ago I found a VHS copy of the movie for rent and thought i'd see it again because it has been 7 years since I first saw it and I forgot everything about it.I couldn't believe it! I actually enjoyed it and have decided to get the DVD after all.It is a hard DVD to track down but I did see a few for sale on line. This time around I didn't mind the story and even liked the characters and even though I still wish Julian Sands was in it,I didn't mind Bruce Payne as much. The reason I think he doesn't bother me in warlock 3 is it has nothing at all to do with the 1st or 2nd film.It is a completely original story and obviously there can be more than 1 warlock.I like the special effects. My favorite scene is where the warlock turns the girl who reads tarot cards into glass and then smashes her.It looked quite real.I thought the lightning scenes could have been more realistic because the thunder sounded real. I am hoping that one day there will be a 4th warlock movie with a bigger budget,a great story, and played one more time by Julian Sands. But for right now I don't mind adding Warlock 3 to my collection.Give this movie a chance. You don't need to watch part 1 or 2 before seeing part 3 because it stands very well on it's own.
As far as sequels go, this one rates right down there with Pet Semetary 2 and Exorcist 2. Lame, Lame Lame!!!This movie had absolutely NOTHING to do with the first two movies. And, unfortunately for Julian Sands fans, he wanted too much money to do this third installment, and so the studio hired some lame a** to play his character. Never a good move in a sequel, and that little studio stunt drags this already wavering "B" flick down into the trenches of the "D" category. Dirt. Disgusting.Deplorable. Detritus. Dire.I hate this movie. It represents everything that has ruined the industry. Shoddy acting, horrible casting, non-existent directing...the cast of characters wanders aimlessly through this horrid piece of garbage seemingly with no direction whatsoever. This is not even a movie. It's a flick, and nothing more. Don't waste your time, or resources on this one.It rates NOTHING -0/10- from...the Fiend :.
I didn't pay a lot for that movie, and that is better : it is a standard fantastic/horror movie full of silly things, where all what is going to happen is clear from the very first seconds... The acting doesn't save the special effects that doesn't save the set that doesn't save the script that doesn't save the directing... Nothing saves nothing. The french baseline is "the redemption"... Well there is no redemption, this is a bad picture that contains no fun, no real fear, no great idea. Avoid it !
This movie had its moment or two, but all in all it was not very good. I liked Ashley Lawrence in Hellraiser, so I though she was good for this part. Bruce Payne, I thought, was not good as the Warlock because he was not interesting looking or frightening or anything of that sort. Julian Sands for the first 2 Warlock movies were good, though. It was different that they revolved this particular story around a house and everything and everybody in it, but still I did not get into this movie. 5 out of 10.
