Gripping story with well-crafted characters

A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

This is a conventionally told double love story in a multicultural setting. If nothing else it's charming, and the actors are interesting and give good performances. I agree with a previous reviewer that it's like a quality version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, without the Hollywood glucose all over it, and also in the less worn-out setting of Sweden. The story is well told and keeps up the interest, but the end is predictable (like I said, conventional) and a bit too cute. I didn't really understand the problem between Måns and his girlfriend (Jenny?), they seem to fall out of love just because it suited the plot, and I thought that Måns' and Roro's third co-worker, the soul brother with the afro, was a bit too cute and multi-cultural (yes I got it -- we're one big family of cool dudes). My favourite role was Roro's very cool father. And a protagonist in the shape of a pudgy middle-aged Arab, you don't have that too often in a movie, do you?

East is East was good, Bend it Like Beckham was predictable, but Jalla Jalla was really good. As in most romantic comedies, the end result will be a happy ending for everyone except the bullies and this movie is no different. But it does allow a closer look into the mindset of the "victims" of arranged marriages. It´s a really good movie. I accept the arguments that there are faults with the movie, but this wasn´t mass-produced in Hollywood, so that´s understandable and a charming factor, really.

The first Swedish-Lebanese movie I've seen; it's rather like a French comedy but with angst. There's a plot of sorts and we have the familiar migrant issue of how much to modify the customs of the old country in the new land, but it's all done in good humour and with a generally light touch. It seems that Swedes are never so sympathetic than faced with a case of impotence and that Lebanese pater familiae are not entirely rigid in their attitudes, even if Lebanese brothers are pretty gung-ho in defending their sister's virtue.This is very much a family film with at least five Fares in the credits. Fares Fares, he of the prominent nose (and older brother of the director Josef Fares) sails through proceedings with aplomb as Roro the gardener who offers to marry Yasmin, a cousin, to stop her family sending her sent back to Lebanon. Torkel Peterrson, as his skinhead workmate Mans with the erection problem, keeps his anger close to the surface without too many explosions though with Tuva Novotny in the cast it would be difficult for any male not clinically dead to resist desire (unfortunately she plays Roro's girlfriend.)Not a profound piece of work but fun to watch and some nice performances.

Hi everyone, just saw the film and loved it. Nothing much to say that hasn't been said on this page already, except: THE SOUNDTRACK IS GREAT!Soundtracks in general are pretty important. The combination of blues and punk songs in this film, however, is what really makes the film special. It's all simple and straightforward and might not leave much room for interpretation, as does the film itself. So you might call it shallow. But you might just as well say it gets the message across in an entertaining way, and that is an art form, too. Good entertainment, good humour and a few beautiful moments. Jalla! Jalla! reminds me of Monsoon Wedding in that respect. Anyone who reads this and knows if the soundtrack has been published anywhere, please email me at the above address.
