Why so much hype?
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
78 long minutes of something along the lines of an after school movie about the plight of the rain forest. Sort of. An after school movie may have been better. The only thing redeeming about this movie is the pg rated sex scene with Sandra Bullock. Sort of. This scene must be the fire mentioned in the title, but it was just smoke. Not smoke in a good way.Nothing else was redeeming. The stereo types weren't redeeming. The over the top bad 'acting' wasn't redeeming. The sad commentary about the awful plight of the rain forest wasn't redeeming. This is 78 minutes I'll never get back. Never ever ever.Did I mention the pg rated sex scene with Sandra?
In France, the first movie of Bullock has always been linked with "Judge Dredd" and in some way, she has been "discovered" by Sly. So I got surprised to discover in a cheap DVDs store ("all for 5 euros") a movie before this first one and also called her beginning. When you see the trailer, it's looks like a horror movie happening in the south American jungle but as you watch it, you can see that it is just plain reality: the fight for forest, Indians versus owners.I don't like Spanish culture so my interest was low but I really appreciated the shooting in real locations! The rhythm was good for an hour but exploded with the explosion sequence because it degenerated then in a very low action movie. But, bad script or not, Bullock is a really a charming and talented actress, right from her start"s".
Take 1 famous actress (Sandra Bullock - Speed, Demolition Man, Miss Congeniality) and 1 semi-known actor (Craig Sheffer - Nightbreed) and give them a story about the de-nuding and deforestation of the Amazon. It looks like a made for TV movie, low production values, poor plot, poor script and poor characters - only the locations look any good. The very bad love scene between Bullock and Sheffer does not help the film at all. It was agreed in advance by Bullock what could and couldn't be seen so don't expect to see anything remotely erotic. It was quite a surprise that Bullock died at the end leaving the lesser known actor, Sheffer to tell the story of the plight of the burning and logging of the rainforest.Avoid it if you can, it's predictable and very stereo typed.
With such an important topic, why does the dialogue and the acting have to be so bad. Who would waste the time to put something like this together; I'm embarrassed to have wasted the time to watch it. The actors must have been very hungry....
