Best movie ever!
Now when you think action star in current times Chuck Norris is not in the top 10 but in the 1980s he was probably in the top 5. This movie was one of his classics that really exemplified what 1980s action was. They destroyed a real neighborhood in this movie (the development was set for demolition so they let the film makers destroy it). This movie had the classic bad guys doing horrible things, trying to take over and only one man can stop them, that's right Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris' character is a retired Black ops/special forces type who retired and disappeared because of all the stress he had endured from his job. But when the really bad guys start making their move, the government sends for their number one guy. Chuck is a one man wrecking crew in this. He seems to dodge every bullet that comes at him but all his bullets hit their mark. They really went the extra mile in the finale of this movie, the way the top bad guy goes out is so good they used it again in a Charles Bronson 'Death Wish' movie which was made by the same producers. If you know about Cannon Films, this is one of their crown jewels.
"Invasion U.S.A." is another Chuck Norris vehicle that you watch hoping it will be bad enough to be entertaining, and end up being disappointed. Sure, it's ridiculous, but there isn't enough focus on the stupid aspects of it to make it worth watching. Like all Norris-fronted movies, it's merely boring and listless. The plot is something to do with a bad guy who hates Norris's character and tries to take on the United States with the apparent end goal of killing him. It would have been funnier if the handful of bad guys we see here really had tried to take on a country of hundreds of millions of people. Instead, they apparently try to start race riots by posing as police and killing minorities. This is still ludicrous, but not as laugh out loud funny.Of course, this is an '80s action movie, so there's the usual right wing garbage in it. For one, the bad guy (played by class-A villain actor Richard Lynch), is named Rostov, and he's in cahoots with Cubans and other random commies. For two, most of the bad guys' attacks, when not focused on minorities, are focused on images of the good ol' U.S. of A.: ie. a family killed while putting Christmas decorations up, a bus of schoolkids blown to bits, another attack at (gasp) a shopping mall, which the filmmakers apparently think is as quintessentially American as the tea ceremony is Japanese. Maybe they have a point? It's funny how Norris is thought of as the quintessential star of B- grade action movies. He looks uncomfortable in them. He clearly doesn't like the kinds of things that people want to see from movies like this. There's a feisty female reporter, played by another B-movie star, Melissa Prophet, who does nothing but yell and curse at Chuck whenever she's on screen. With another actor, there'd be the requisite love scene. In this one, nothing. So we get half a character arc. She's supposed to hate Norris at the beginning so she can love him by the end, see? But Norris won't go there, so instead we get the beginning with no end. Why not just take her out completely, then?It does have one scene that must be seen to be believed, though: the Richard Lynch character is taking part in a drug deal (what do drugs have to do with his character's plan?) and a lady is snorting some cocaine through a tube. Lynch bangs her head down on the table, jamming the tube up her nose, and sticks the gun down Billy Drago's pants and pulls the trigger. Then he shoves someone - maybe Drago, or the woman - out the window. If you're expecting similar levels of craziness throughout the movie, you'll be disappointed, so just find the scene on Youtube and give "Invasion U.S.A." a miss.
From September 11th 2001 to the Boston Bombing. From mass slaughter of school children to ruthless drug cartels trying to move North into the US and Canada right down to homegrown terrorists seeking some "vengeance" for a cause because their angry at the government, this film is more relevant today than it likely ever was. From the countless movies I've watched in my life I've learned one very important thing. Hollywood used to try and encourage people to fight for their country. To Protect their families friends and neighbors. They encouraged people to believe that, as the saying goes, it's better to die for something than to die for nothing. Hence, the boatload of "one man army" movies like Invasion USA or Commando from 1985. Hell even Red Dawn 1984 hit on the same concept. Over the past few years Hollywood seems more interested in making movies about people getting drunk and peeing in sinks or sparkly anorexic teenage vampires. Sorry if that seems crude, but I've had about all I can take out of today's "film industry". It lacks purpose, direction and above all quality. As for these older movies, It's clear the idea wasn't just to sell tickets but more importantly to send a message. Screw with North America and we'll hit you so hard your great grandparents will feel it. We fight for our freedom and not only would we fight for it, we would put our lives on the line for it. We would protect the innocent and fight the bad guys to the death if need be. Invasion USA is no different and that's why it's one of my favorite action movies. It's well directed, well written and is extremely thrilling. Like with most action films of the time, forget the lousy CGI. The film makers needed to blow something up, they blew it up. Somebody had to dive off a building, they jumped. They needed to flip a car, they flipped it. Invasion USA is a classic action film at heart and never disappoints in that regard. It has all the action movie goodies a film fan could want and then some. I suppose a quick summation of the movie is important so here goes. Matt Hunter, a former special ops vet has retired and lives in the Everglades. He's had enough of the fight and just wants to live in peace. Meanwhile a large terrorist Organization has begun a quiet but extremely violent attack on the United States. The leader of that group is the "arch nemesis" of Hunter. He and Hunter once faced off and the terrorist leader barely escaped alive. That terrorist is now determined to kill Matt Hunter at all costs because he knows that if there's one man who can stop the invasion of America, Hunter is that man.The thing about Chuck Norris that I like so very much is that he almost looks like your everyday guy. Yet blink and he'll kick you ass so fast and so hard it'll take you about a week to wake up. I love his deep voice, his deliberate way of speaking his ability to make you believe he really could and would save your ass if you were In trouble. In real life he's a good honest man and he brings that into virtually every character he's ever played. As for the plot of the movie, as I said. It may have been far fetched to think that terrorists, Russians or even drug cartels would try to invade North America in 1985, but After the events of the past decade and a half, I think it much more likely now. Maybe it's time Hollywood brings back the one man army mentality, in the end it might just be the thing that saves us all. Not to mention its a hell of a lot more fun to watch than most of the lousy movies Hollywood is cranking out now. Here's one final note. Watch the movie and watch for a scene involving a school bus and a bomb. The way Norris handles the situation is just fantastic, he delivers one of the best one liners I've ever heard but yet hits the nail right on the head.
Joseph Zito directed this far-fetched action film that stars Chuck Norris as former CIA agent Matt Hunter, who is living peacefully in Florida when he is informed that his old nemesis Rostov(played by Richard Lynch) is planning an attack on Miami, leading an estimated 1000 man army to blow up houses and cause havoc. Matt agrees to help, since both he and Rostov are haunted by their last encounter, which both of them regret(Matt let Rostov live, Rostov wants revenge for the humiliation.) Lots of action and explosions here, but the plot is idiotic, and none of this remotely rings true. Too silly to be compared with real life terrorist attacks...
