Really great little movie in many ways. It doesn't try to be more than it is and in that ways stays well clear of more contrived dramas. Realistic relationships and charactersTrue to life and also i must mention (silently) that it had one particular scene that made me break down...which is something i so rarely do!!!! For you that have seen it and have wee little ones, you will undoubtedly know the scene i am talking aboutWatch it if you haven't yet. Its not perfect by any means but a solid little movie

If you enjoy being bored senseless, watch this film. There is so much wrong with it that it is difficult to know where to start, but the obvious place is the over-long completely unnecessary sex scene. I think it is very wrong to ask serious actors to perform such an explicit scene as this. Even it was plausible that she would try to set him up in this way, the scene does not need to be so long or explicit. (Unless of course the film was exploring her sexual frustration and needs, which it is not. She has already had a fumble in a car with a married man. So much for losing your husband - let's deprive another woman of hers). The whole premise for this type of revenge in the film is ridiculous anyway - would a woman who had lost her husband and daughter to this man's drug driving really be able to face having sex with him, never mind the intimacy of cunnilingus. I think not. And then suddenly she decides to drop charges - just like that. I think the police would have something to say about that.Another thing - an urn with the ashes of an adult male is surprisingly HEAVY - she carried the urns of her husband and daughter as if they were a loaf of bread. Also, i think this film needs subtitles - not for the thick Glaswegian accents but for the constant mumbling going on.

Set in Glasgow, a woman who watches closed circuit TV all day for the police gets obsessed with a particular man she believes may be a criminal (shades of Rear Window). She personally starts to track him, wrapping us up in her voyeurism. Gradually, piece by piece, the whys behind the story fall into place, and we are ultimately lead to some very emotional territory. Perhaps the ending twists are a bit pat, or quick, but they worked for me. If Mike Leigh made a Hitchcock film, it might be something like this. (An amazing version of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' over the end credits gave me shivers).

What starts of as an fascinating mystery/thriller turns around and becomes more of a slow moving drama about grief, loss, revenge, moving on and forgiveness and it was a pretty good one at that but this film is definitely not for everyone. I thought the acting was pretty strong and believable and you felt her pain and struggle of the loss of her husband and her daughter and her odd way with dealing with it and it was just an intriguing but slow journey to find out what really happened that day to them and how she struggles to accept it and move on. This movie really had me guessing and thinking and surprised me in a couple of ways like thinking a certain character is more ruthless than they ended up being and how the mood changes towards the end and ends on a sad but positive note, believe me this is not a full blown thriller. There were some dark, erotic scenes in this film that is not for all tastes and might turn some viewers off so be warned. Overall this was not great but it was an interesting look at life, loss and kind of redemption and it was pretty satisfying, not really what I thought it would be at all but it's worth a look only once though. Don't expect too much from this film or you will be very disappointed, this one requires a lot of patience. More of a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
