Simply A Masterpiece
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Pokemon The Movie 2000 is a sequel that caters to spoiled brats who do nothing but suck the money out of their parents' and adult guardians' wallets as well as a waste of time on something much better, like the Walt Disney Animation Studios films, or drawing and colouring their favourite characters from those movies. Like its predecessor, it deserves a Razzie for Worst Foreign Language Film, if such an award existed. This is why I despise Pokemon. It is such a huge cash cow franchise that even it makes the other cash cow Nintendo franchises, Mario and The Legend of Zelda, both of which I love, look underrated. I actually regret being a fan of Pokemon in my childhood. I wish I was never one in any stage of my life. The film has a stereotypical animation style so heavily used in Japanese animation, so cutesy, it is ugly and unpleasant to look at. The voice acting in Pokemon, both the series and movies, is a waste of the actors' careers and talents, both for the original Japanese cast and the English dub cast, but for different reasons. For the former, they work for the quintessential stereotypical animated series of their local country, since that franchise is sickeningly ubiquitous in Japan, that they cater to spoiled brats in the country that have the relentless desire for stereotypically cute animals stored in a ball in their pockets. For the latter, it is a tad worse, since they are voice actors that working with a screenplay that was not written in their language and a thriving cash cow franchise that loves to take parents' and adult guardians' money. The English dub voice actors could have been doing something much better with their careers and talents, like working with Hollywood movie stars in American animated films, but sadly, that never happened. The writing is idiotically formulaic. I know it is written in Japanese, but just because it is written in Japanese doesn't mean it is good. Writing that is written in a foreign language can still be bad. The director, Kunihiko Yuyama, is one of the worst directors in foreign language cinema. The characters are annoying stereotypes of Japanese people, and for that reason, Satoshi, Kasumi and Takeshi, deserve no empathy at all.The Pokemon movies are worse than the direct to video sequels of big budget Disney films, at least those films have redeeming features. The Pokemon films have no redeeming features at all.
I was so excited about this as a child. The movie was very good for what it was at the time, and probably right up there among the best of all Pokemon movies to date. The story was wonderful. Characters all had a role somehow, and all blended well together despite Ash being the centre of attention. This was a time where Pokemon was headed to a whole new world – a world of the unknown, and we saw that with the introduction of a new Pokemon region in Johto. Lugia who is a legendary bird Pokemon is one of those Pokemon from the Johto region. It is a good Pokemon movie to watch because it has the three legendary birds from the Kanto region (Zapdos, Articuno & Moltres) along with the "the guardian of the sea" – Lugia. The movie gives an insight into the stories of these legendary Pokemon and their suppose "destinies" Ash Ketchum.
With all the endearing Pokémon in this animated feature and highly successful television anime series, it's no wonder that this animated feature is a box office success grossing over USD 133 million worldwide. But rewatching it again in 2014, I can't help to slightly feel upset. The Power of One (1999) is visually beautiful and much lighthearted when compared to its predecessor Mewtwo Strikes Back (1998). However, in terms of storyline, it is worst. The concept of the film is great but its ending and dubbing edits almost destroyed the whole thing. I must confess, I don't like the ending story. There are scenes that are fun to watch but the prophecy which initially radiates mystery; exactly becomes one of the dumbest thing I have ever heard on screen. Although it is expected that the whole Pokémon anime series and movie is Ash-centred, it is still super shocking alright, especially when the legendary Pokémon fate if not whole world seems to be dependent on him as well. So, it's sad to conclude The Power of One (1999) as a letdown! Love the fictional disaster, love Lugia's song and voice or cry, love all the adorable Pokémon, love all the majestic legendary Pokémon, love the short film which is the most memorable part of this whole animated feature for me (I may have seen it probably nearly a hundred times as a child) but my gosh, I get what they are trying to do but I don't like it. Love the Pokémon but maybe not the story. :(
Part of the reason for the huge financial success of this movie has to do with all the ads which address Pokemon 2000 as the greatest adventure yet (or something like that). But is it?...not exactly.Pokemon 2000 is entertaining, but it could have been more. Among the things that it lacks are the sense of a journey, the ethereal ambiance of the first pokemon feature, as well as the antagonistic sense of menace which Mewtow provided. On the other hand Pokemon 2000, is probably a better film for a mass audience, because there is more action and humor, but those alone do not make it the great adventure it promises.Unlike the first movie, this one feels a bit short given the type of premise (one hero must save the world from destruction). Naturally this hero is Ash. In the movie however, he does not do anything so incredible. It felt to me like any other character could have been the hero, because if you get the help of an almost invincible legendary pokemon like Lugia, you don't need much skill. If this had been a slightly longer story, with a little more adventure, Pokemon 2000 would be a worthy film, but it's probably good enough for young Pokemon fans.
