This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I sat through this movie because my wife wanted to watch it. She liked it? I thought it had an OK message for kids under 10. But for adults; terrible acting, silly plot, painful to watch to the end. I would rather have caught up on my sleep or been happier doing my taxes. Enough said.

Norman Warner (John Astin) is a long time winner of Teacher of the Year award from the students. When he dies on the podium, he tells his son and fellow teacher Matt (David Paymer) to take his shot. A new teacher Mr D (Ryan Reynolds) comes in and quickly is the most popular. Matt has to battle the newbie for Teacher of the Year.David Paymer is too small for the lead role. He doesn't have the energy or the fun to drive this movie. Andrew Robb who plays the kid is little better. Ryan Reynolds is certainly his charismatic self. It's more serious than funny. I can't imagine anybody rooting for Matt. He is frustratingly small. The style is low budget weak and without excitement. The good thing is there's a lesson here that hits you over the head.

This movie should be shown to all teachers and aspiring teachers. You will be moved by it. Too many teachers teach academics. They do not teach you how to think or those things that really matter. When I went to school it was all about facts after facts after facts. Facts were taught in a dry and boring manner and, as such, we students learned that learning was just another hurdle to our life's experience. We need to change the way we teach in our schools and that can be seen in our society. We do not teach our children how to think. As we read the papers each day we see it in the way our community leaders fight over things that really should not be fought over. Things like civil union and equal rights were obviously not an important part of the curriculum. If those things were taught to our children then our society would be a better place. Teachers should make learning educational but also meaningful and fun. Today it is about facts and taking tests to prove that we know the facts. But how about meaningful things like humanity? As in respecting one another? Look at the newspaper about how people trampled others during the Christmas shopping days. Isn't it ironic that we celebrate a time of love with selfishness and uncaring for our fellow human beings? Yes, it is time to change the way we teach and I recommend this movie because they just may have the solution to our educational crisis. I was really surprised at the value of this movie. I watched it for entertainment and I came away with awe at the fact that this movie teaches us a lesson about the bigger picture.

I saw this movie when it first came out and a few times after but its been probably almost 2 years now since i've seen it. The first time i could relate to it right away. I had a teacher just the year before who was exactally like Mr. D. he's name even rhymed, Mr. b. we never called him by his full name like in the movie. They were so much alike it stunned me. Mr. b was always funny and had crazy ways of teaching that included using a microphone and using a guitar on spelling test. Mr. B taught has so many life lessons about living for the day and live like there's no tomorrow. The movie is great and teaches those same lessons wonderfully. Little did i know that only about 6 months after isaw this movie Mr. b would die just like Mr. d. I wish i could see this movie again cause now i can relate even more.
