As Good As It Gets

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Excellent Cinematography/Sets/Costumes, Decent Acting, Story needs work, Much better than Chris Lee's DraculaFirst, this movie is miles ahead of the Christopher Lee's Dracula. I recently watched all the Lee Hammer Dracula movies. They are embarrassing. In a full movie he's maybe in them for about 10 minutes each. The screen time, he's best moments are his costumes and his stance. When he opens his mouth, what do we hear, A THICK English ACCENT. What the hell is that? Dracula from London! What happened to the Carpathian mountains. At least Gary Oldman tried for some exotic Romanian accent. At least Bela Legosi naturally had the accent. I remember the Hammer Lee movies as a kid and enjoyed them. Now, I watch them and I see garbage. Lee's first Hammer Dracula, his first lines read something about cataloging his books in his library. Hammer movies best assets were the sets, cinematography, music, and the acting was professional. Lee's acting was professional. He looked the part, but his dialogue and his accent were pure crap. Go watch them. Sorry for blowing your bubble.Now this movie, Twins, Peter (Van Helsing) Cushing schooled in the art of killing vampires. That is unintentional humor. He is great in the movie. He's not the hero, he's a killer of innocent girls. The guy who played the count was also great, but his dialogue was crap, and he had limited time. The other actors here are all decent, but again, the dialogue was crap. The twin sisters did well. The tears on the good sisters face looked intense. The story needed more work. It is a better story than Vampire Lovers. That movie was all over the place. Vampire Lovers definitely had more intense atmosphere than Twins. Twins, needed more work on the story and dialogue. They should have spent more time on the count and Mircalla and the twins. Too much time was spent on witch hunting and the school master. Also, there was the counts black helper, not good. The vampire story itself needed more work.The music also was crap. The opening score was garbage. It sounded like some Spanish, Mexican western tune. Rating is a B-, or 6 stars. Better music would have made it 7. Better story, dialogue, more fog, more killings, more vampires would have made it an 8. More atmosphere, more scares, more everything, more different and it would have been 9 or 10 stars.

Twins of Evil is about two sisters who have to go live with their aunt and uncle after their father past away. The uncle however is the leader of the church and the head of the witch burning council. Neither of the girls approve of this treatment and protest in their own way. If it wasn't for my desire to see if Gustav gets what is coming to him I might have just turned the movie off. None of the other characters are really that interesting to say the least. I think the movie used every twin cliché imaginable which was annoying. The villain was weak and not very intimating, while his lacky was pretty awesome until one scene that I will not say. You will know it when you see it, for 1972 it is pretty sad as they didn't need to include it. I think the film is held in high standing mainly due to the casting decisions. The IMDb rating is more accurate. The film is okay, not bad like some of the other Hammer films but just middle of the road on the very long list.

Anyone who thinks the current (2015) ISIS crisis is extraordinary might watch this great movie and reflect that things come round, and sometimes we don't like that.There are fundamentalist idiots who do extreme awfulness, in the name of their 'god', there are idle, arrogant, privileged wealthy who try to pleasure themselves at the expense of anyone else, and then, there are the ordinary folk, some of whom are prepared to act and change things for the better. Much like today?Peter Cushing is the evil Gustav who burns beautiful girls for fun, hey, didn't people deal to girls they thought were witches in Salem and numerous other places a relatively few years ago? Kathleen Bryon his suffering wife, hey, did he ever get his trousers off? Maybe not? Then there are his nieces, the beautiful but willful Collinson twins. Oh, so cute. David Warbeck and Isobel Black are brother and sister, perhaps teachers and good people.In the realm of horror, this is a good example, and one with a twist or two. I rate it a 7

Twins of Evil- First off, yes this is the movie starring the Collinson Twins the first twins as Playboy Centerfolds. Yes they are beautiful & sexy. Yes any guy would sleep with either or both. The note worthy thing here is that both put in a tremendous acting performance.Mary plays the pure virtuous sister Maria & Madeleine plays the I want to be bitten in the neck sister Frieda. As Frieda asks in the show, What if I don't want a good man? Peter Cushing is excellent as their witch hunting uncle that burns all evil to purify it. The usual group of Hammer Film supporting cast is here & as great as usual.This was surpassingly good & told as the simplest vampire tale I have seen. Two nieces are sent to guardianship with their uncle played by Peter Cushing. He, of course, lives in the village directly below Karnstein Castle. Although the twins are impossible to tell apart by sight they do not remotely resemble each other in spirit. Good vs evil, Greedy vs content, dominant vs submissive all play here & very well from both. If you're looking for lots of nudity as in Lust for a Vampire you'll be somewhat disappointed but not totally. As I said earlier this is a straight forward & refreshing vampire story with a few surprises in story line. I am choosing to leave those out of this review & hope others have too.It is the great sense of Evil that this movie portrays so effectively. Against that, Peter Cushing's puritanical over zealous errors play powerfully. The vivid desire to be evil (Frieda) is shown against the desire to only be contented, be pleasant & a refreshment to others (Maria). Set against the village elders misguided tyrannical rule that bears fruit non-the-less in the end. Don't miss this 3rd installment of the Karnstein Castle & Mircalla / Carmilla / Marcilla Karnstein. The pacing of the scenes is ideal & the flow of the story perfect. I found no errors here. Thank You to Hammer Films.
