Simply A Masterpiece
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
The opening scene with the big bubba sawing a woman's neck told me that this was not going to be an easy flick. It is typical of those like Wrong Turn and Texas chainsaw Massacre, where city folks get off the main road and come into the web of some backwoods maniac (Erik Fones). They agree to move some furniture and find what they think are old slasher films. "Wait for it...Wait for it...Oh! Boobies!" However, they were more than they bargained for.It has some nice twists, plenty of cringe-inducing gore, and an original ending.Featuring Kristyn Green from "The Starter Wife," who gets hammered and pukes on Pete (Carmody), (or was that pukes on Pete and gets hammered by the maniac?); and Ursula Taherian, who may just be someone to keep an eye on. Supporting performances by Savannah Costello as the "naked dead girl," and Leslie Ann Valenza as the "8mm movie heroine." The main characters, including Matt Carmody, did a great job with some good dialog and a fair, if familiar, story.
I watched Carver with my girlfriend a few nights ago and as I was watching I soon realized that this movie was following the simple rules of dying in a horror movie. You know, sex, drugs/drinking, camping in the middle of nowhere, helping out some creepy guy in a diner.Although the death scenes were very predictable and I was found saying "Well, he's going to die." It still kept me entertained with a lot of bloody scenes, including one that will make the guys, like me, cringe in their seats. The ending was a little bizarre, but again predictable, something about having a character in the movie with the last name Carver sort of gave it away, but it was a very clean and what I like to call a "That's gonna be a sequel," ending. All in all this was a very good effort by a lower budget company and they deserve any and all props for this movie. The actors put forth an awesome effort especially that of main actor, Neil Kubath, who I think will have a very good career ahead of him in the coming years. This movie is totally worth the watch.Congrats to all for an awesome job.
This movie is actually not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, but it is not all that great either. If you want to know what it's like, just take a bit of Texas Chainsaw, Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, Cabin Fever, Hostel, and House of 1000 Corpses and run them through a blender.Nothing new here at all, and it was done a lot better in the classic horror movies I mentioned above.Still, overall it's not that bad if you give it a fair chance to sink in. The parts where they are watching the assumed home made horror films was actually a pretty decent idea, and the movie actually revolves around that central point to give it some basic premise of originality. The parts where the Carver was on the grainy film were probably some of the best points of the movie. The characters were such that you just couldn't wait to see them get killed, with the exception of the little brother, you sort of root for him, then cheer when he finally gets it in the end.All in all it was done before in a lot of other much better movies, but it is worth a watch if you are a fan of the torture genre. I was actually surprised that it came out way better than my expectations.I saw all the bad reviews here and was not hoping for much, but the low budget quality adds to the overall effect and should not detract from the experience. In my opinion it is decent enough for a viewing by those who like this particular brand of torture/horror. Just don't expect anything really new or innovative. Take it for what it is, an excuse to watch people get brutally tortured and killed in very sick and disgusting ways.Nothing like a good saw blade to the skull to make you day suck @##.
i guess we all have to start somewhere, this is one of those movies that one day will be remade maybe by the same guy and what he has learned will make him a better director/ producer.as stated the actors needed more depth, i did learn the words to turkey in the straw so not a total loss. the inn keeper or what ever that PLace was has a good southern accent most likely real, he may have been the bright spot. overall the movie was a bit too dark to see , i wanted to turn on all the lights in my house. gore was too dark to give the heave ho feeling, but again there actors did their best, script wise it was at least 2 rewrites from where it could be a much better movie and that is the problem now that i think of it.. the script was jumbled never flowed, so watch it learn from it , it was an indie i think but i have seen some kick butt indie movies ...clerk, a dogs breakfast, so i know it can be done..but someone told me horror films were the hardest to make and this proves it
