On a flight from Los Angeles to Paris, a mad scientist on the run from the CIA is transporting a coffin containing the body of a colleague infected with a genetically modified virus. While the 747 crosses a violent thunderstorm, the instability of the aircraft allows the corpse to get out of its container.

I love this movie so much
A Masterpiece!
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Bad, very bad...from the dialogue to the acting to the effects - as expected. The film offers nothing new to the genre, just a screaming, squealing gore fest.
A decent entry on the zombie sub-genre, 'Flight of the Living Dead' takes the usual zombie epidemic to an original place: a 747 flying from LA to Paris. During the flight, a mysterious scientific experiment that was being transported escapes, unleashing the zombies upon the unsuspecting passengers.'Flight' does not follow the Romero zombie film's, as in it isn't slow nor does it have a social commentary hidden in it. Instead, it is a gory, somewhat intense, and above all fun horror picture. The zombies are crawling through the airplane and can appear anywhere at any time; once there is an attack in the bathroom, and later some start coming from the floor. The acting is not bad, which is surprising for a movie like this (where good or even decent acting tends to be rarely found). The effects are okay, but the setting of the plane is what really steals the show. There is an incredible lack of logic in here though, especially the ending (which seems to invite a sequel) and the shoot outs in the plane, but the film's violent fun is enough to make this a decent movie overall. After all, this film main goal is to entertain and it accomplishes its task well.
FLIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is one of those bargain basement horror outings that it's all too easy to pass by in the video store. The title alone makes it sound like a cheesy riff on George Romero's classic zombie fest and you just know it's going to invariably be low budget and rather silly in places. As it turns, it's far from the worst zombie movie ever made – it has better production values than APOCALYPSE OF THE DEAD, for example – but it has crucial flaws that spoil its entertainment value. One of the worst is how the scenes involving the undead are actually handled. They're portrayed in the cheesiest, over-the-top manner possible, with some CGI effects that are absolutely awful and some make-up and contact lenses that look like they belong at a Halloween party. It's strange, because the rest of the film is played relatively straight and seriously; there's a B-movie atmosphere, yes, but the actors are game and it all hangs together relatively well until the zombies show up.The interesting thing about this movie is the high number of familiar faces rounding out the cast. The captain of the plane, Raymond Barry, was a series regular on THE X-FILES; the bad guy, Erick Avarj, and the criminal, Kevin J. O'Connor, were both in THE MUMMY; Dale Midkiff was a leading man back in the day (think PET SEMATARY) but is now way down the cast list, while B-movie stalwart Brian Thompson shows up and is so embarrassed that his face is covered for the entire duration of his appearance (I only noticed him because of his name in the credits). Genre fans might enjoy themselves with this one, but I can't say I was particularly impressed; there are a lot better movies out there, and FLIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD doesn't offer anything that we haven't seen before. I like the premise, but the execution could have been a lot better (and scarier) had it been handled more subtly.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Zombie movies, or I used to be. The problem is that nothing is doing new to refresh the genre. I mean, we had "Shaun of the Dead" and "Zombieland," but that's about it. It has reached a point where once you've seen one zombie movie, you've seen all of them, and "Zombies On A Plane" is no exception. It has the pale-overshadowing, the weak characters, the unnecessary gore, the impossibly unlikely events and the lack of credibility. The only thing going for it is the new and innovative zombie caricatures. Overall, it's just sadly formulaic, like wanting certain characters to survive and casting odds on them. The only update is the change in setting, but beyond that, it's just the same as all the other zombie movies: mysterious substance revives the dead, one zombie creates two, two creates four, as numbers multiply the situation is supposed to become hopeless, but it doesn't become exciting; you're just wondering and predicting how it's going to end and even then its a letdown. Why not insert something new like the Bermuda Triangle as a plot twist? Vampire coffin in the hold? A Time warp? A broken crate of snakes? Come on, if you're going to repeat the same movie again, add something new besides changing the location! Interesting, but not worthy.
