That was an excellent one.
Sorry, this movie sucks
Good concept, poorly executed.
A lot of fun.
My 6 year old daughter loved it and asked for it on again straight away so it's done it's just. I found the rat bit a bit boring
To me, this movie is by far one of the greatest movies I have had the privilege of watching. For years I would have memories of this movie from when I was younger; NC, the tree, the rat king, the wagon scene at the end, and especially the prince. Many times a year I would try my hardest to find this movie that kept filling my mind and would always fail. Well, today I have finally found it.True, I had to pay $2.00 on YouTube to watch it because I couldn't find it anywhere else, but it was completely worth it. I adored Uncle Albert's scenes when he breaks the 4th wall. I think it brought a sense of enlightenment and amusement to the movie. The prince was absolutely adorable and Elle Fanning and Charlie Rowe are phenomenal actors. Their characters were so believable and raw. They really made them come to life. The rat faces were done very well and the Nutcracker looked completely believable to me. Even the songs were cute.It may just be personal preference, but I found this to be a great family movie and hands down an amazing piece of work. The reason behind all the bad reviews, I don't know. Maybe it's because of the "Nazi Rats" or maybe people are just rude. Who knows? But give this movie a chance, it might surprise you.
If I understand correctly, the lengthened title "The Nutcracker: The Untold Story" wasn't used till the movie had already failed under the simple "Nutcracker" title. I can understand that "The Nutcracker" by itself leads to false expectations. As a matter of fact, I ran into the movie on TV just as it was ending, the kid was singing to the music of Tschaikowsky's piano concerto, and I said to myself, "Wow, they've run through all the beloved Nutcracker music and they've had to add even more Tschaikowsky!" So I made a point of catching the movie again, from the beginning this time, and where were the Nutcracker tunes? Quite absent most of the time, although when they popped up they were sometimes interestingly reworked. They would have made a nice addition to a movie that was not expected necessarily to include them, but they were rather pitiful in a movie that you'd expect to be much more Tschaikowskian than it was. Although the nutcracker belongs originally to Hoffmann rather than to Tschaikowsky, and the basic elements of Hoffman's story aren't all thrown away for the movie, it's not Hoffmann that people care about these days. Keeping the nutcracker out of the title might have been too much to ask, but I think that adding to the title was the right idea. "Mary and the Nutcracker" or some other variation might have warned people that this is far from your standard version. On its own overall merits, rather than just its musical merits, I think the movie deserved to do better, although as others have pointed out, it can't be recommended for kids of all ages and between those too old for the formulaic rescue-the-kingdom story and those too young for the shock moments, the demographic of the target audience is kind of slippery.
I think the reviews posted against this film are definitely too harsh. This is a fantasy film and the special effects, the creativity, the imagination and the characterization are all simply fantastic! This movie may not be a Harry Potter but it is surely a delight for any child and even entertaining enough for an adult. Waiting for the DVD release to pick up a copy for my kid.The film is basically about a young girl whose boring life takes a dramatic turn when her toys come to life! The Nutcracker doll takes her into his own world and she helps him fight the evil Rat King. With a stellar star-cast (award-winning actors like Nathan Lane, John Turturro, Frances De La Tour) and superb acting by the kids (Elle Fanning, Charlie Rowe), directed by Emmy Award winning director Andrei Konchlovsky, and 8 songs by Oscar award winning lyricist Sir Tim Rice, you cannot go wrong with such a great team!
