Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
I remember first viewing this movie when it was playing on TV, when I was 11 or 12 years old, and loving the film at the time. Cut to present day, I bought the DVD and decided to watch it again. Such a pleasant and energetic experience. The story may be loose, but the young and attractive cast pull it together. Most of the actors were first-timers and they do a wonderful job. The music is incredible and catchy, its explosive soundtrack is amazing. Sure, the acting is sometimes over-the-top but the movie never gets dull or boring. As a whole, it has a lot of heart and anyone who was a teenager can relate to the characters easily. I remember having overnight camps events for youth group (more dances, less music) but it was eerily similar to the experiences and situations in this film. It's a shame not a lot of people saw this. Not even the most well-known critics reviewed it! If you hate musicals or teen dramas, you're NOT going to like this movie at all. However, if you like teen dramas with music and a lot of heart, then this is the movie for you!
CAMP is a pleasant-enough remake of FAME, only set in a summer camp for musical and theatrical actors. A real place, we might add. Actor Todd Graff assembled a group of high-spirited unknowns and filmed CAMP at the very camp he attended as a youth and later worked at. The songs are from some of Broadway's most famous shows as well as a couple of originals, and they are all great to hear performed by a cadre of youthful innocents with surprisingly big and powerful voices. The film deals with adult themes, uses plenty of bad language, and has a very strong gay sensibility, so viewers beware. This is NOT a Disney film and has a PG-13 rating. It is best viewed by those over 13 years of age, and then only by mature 13 year olds. The movie droops considerably between musical numbers -- the kids clearly are not professional actors, the dialogue is often stilted, and the big finale is a direct swipe from SISTER ACT 2 -- but the musical numbers are plentiful and come fast and furious. Watch for the little girl with big dark hair who sabotages the camp's blonde "princess;" she's a real hoot, and surprises us with a singing voice 10 times bigger than her tiny frame would suggest.

take your typical teen movie. add showtunes. take away any hint of talent outside of some pretty good belting voices. throw in stephen sondheim just so any theatre kid will feel compelled to see it and you have camp. this movie's plot is so feeble that it would be better off if it just showed the performance segments. the acting is painful to watch. really, as a theatre lover, i'm ashamed that so many of my peers relate to this. i wish people would realize that they're a lot better than this movie. it never really goes anyway. you never really bond with any of the characters and you're left at many moments thinking,"what was that all about??"just awful
