Truly Dreadful Film
Fresh and Exciting
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
This is really a terrible film. The script was too weak and the plot has no strong base at all. There was no suspense or twist in the story. Moreover it was full of unnecessary characters who actually has nothing to do with story. The characters had no definite purpose or consistency of any sort. Some of the characters were doing things which no sense a all,The acting was hilarious, and most of the action scenes was quite lame and totally unprofessional. Even if one can endure the acting of the main characters but the acting of the side characters was a real eye sore. Not recommended.
Cheesy and trashy drive in flick, has a lot of originality and a likable performance from hero, Chad Lowe. Some of the sets and shots are memorable beautiful, that highway shot of all those v dubs was arresting. I have to take off my hat to the cinematographer and all the work that went into this, but beneath it all, is trash, honestly, and Kristy Swanson had me remembering how hot she was. There are some great car chases and suspense, among some wild effects. That merciless cop stole the movie, while I loved Ben Stiller's performance as a cook, bringing a lot of humor to the pic which in addition, helped. Also Gilbert Gottfried was classic as a Nazi sort, adding to the humor, who I really liked in this. The movie is really bad, but it's cheesy and exciting, the interior scenes, cheaply shot effectively adding to it's B appeal. On the lam from their Parents, Lowe and Swanson who are on their way to get married, make the dire mistake of taking a back road, from which they may not return, as this is the way to Hell, which in hindsight, doesn't really look that bad. Swanson's taken to hell by your not so normal cop, where boyfriend Lowe must get her back, proving quite a mission. That's basically the story. You be the judge.
I saw this movie a long time ago. It's hard to find. But, I remember that I liked it a lot, and would like to see it again. Please release on DVD! So many movies these days don't stick in your mind after you see them. I saw this a long time ago, and I still remember that it was a good film. I wish there were more films like it.I suppose that I could buy it on VHS, but I keep waiting for it to come out on DVD.There's really nothing more I want to say, but I guess I have to write a few more linesSo, here they are.
OK, so it's not Oscar winning material, but I don't think it was meant to be. "Highway to Hell" is a fun flick about a couple on their way to Las Vegas to get married. They are eloping and to steer clear of the "authorities", they take a back road that turns into an entrance to hell. Yeah, it's corny but it's very entertaining and very well done. For the most part the acting is very good and the production including scenery and music are top notch. I loved the fact that "Hitler" is played by Gilbert Gottfried! Anne Meara, Ben Stiller, and the lovable Richard Farnsworth are also in the film as well as the late Kevin Peter Hall. As always, Chad Lowe does an A+ performance as "Charlie". I loved "Hell Cop" too. This is a fun movie! (I have not watched this film in over 10 years but I still enjoy remembering it.)This is another film that should be available on DVD. The purchase information shows the VHS tape available in Canada, but it really isn't (out of print). The movie industry would make more money if these old films were made available. There are lots of films I would love to have in my personal collection. This is definitely one of them!
