Lack of good storyline.
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
If you've been watching horror movies over recent years (especially the ones that find their way directly to DVD) then you'll probably know how they go... kids (annoyingly attractive), drive to wilderness (totally remote and beyond the reach of anyone's cell phone) and encounter X (could just be basic human rednecks, could be vampire things that live underground – it doesn't really matter). From there it's your average 'stalk 'n slash' until the last teen is left standing.'The Hills Run Red' is hardly a classic, but at least it makes some attempt to be a little bit different. Okay, so the attractive teens go to your average out-of-the-way place and fall foul to... (well, you have to watch the film to find out), but at least the film-makers know the 'horror conventions' and do their best to subvert them. The teens are investigating a 'legendary' eighties horror film that has somehow got lost among the way, therefore there are plenty of references to horror movies' conventions and they do manage to break them here and there. The acting is about what you'd expect from a B-movie and the kills are inventive (although some people might notice the excessive use of CGI here and there) and, as I've mentioned, there's a few little differences that makes this one (at least) worth a watch if you're into the genre. Yes, it'll never be in the same league as the original Texas Chainsaw film, but it'll while away an hour and a quarter if you have time (and teenagers) to kill.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
I was really hoping for more based on the ratings that I saw. The cinematography is decent, as is the acting. However, the movie was relatively slow to pick up. There was nothing spectacular about any of the slasher scenes. The main females are quite attractive and there is some decent nudity involved. However, the plot is fairly weak. I found the plot to be way too unrealistic (even for a slasher flick which is saying a lot.) This movie really could have been a lot more, and it certainly had a decent beginning If you want to see a decent slasher flick that is relatively recent, I would recommend "I spit on your grave," "all the boys love mandy lane" or "cabin in the woods."
This movie is about a film student who is trying to track down a lost horror film, supposedly its an iconic horror film. The director of the film is lost too and now his only hope to find the film is the director's daughter.Three words to describe this movie : Bloody torture porn. And just like most of the films in this genre, its no exception. Its not that terrifying more gory.As i recall only 2 scenes of the movie actually made me a tiny bit scared. This movie reminded me a lot of the Friday the 13th movies. The reasons include the location, baby face's make up, hair ,nudity etc. I really liked the idea/concept though. It was one of the main things that made me to put it in my watch list months ago.I thought it had great potential to become an memorable slasher flick . But for quiet a few reasons it didn't go that path.I have to say i have seen worse acting in this kind of movies but it definitely could have been a lot better. The camera work was shaky at times.Just by looking at the screen once anyone can get that its a straight to video film. Some of the twists in the movie is good.I like that the film students make fun of the clichéd horror movie plots and you can decide one character's death by yourself(always find it interesting). If you watch it make sure you stay for the end credits because there is a twist scene and a sequel hint which i don't think they are gonna do anytime soon considering its performance. Over all if u like slasher movies the i think its worth watching once.6/10
Back in the 1980s famous great horror aficionado Wilson Wyler Concannon (William Sadler) was renowned for no movies whatsoever apart from one that wasn't even released, as it went missing. That movie is "The Hills Run Red", a story about Baby-Face, a guy who cut off his own face and sewed on a dolls mask to replace it and soon afterwards goes on a horror rampage. Enticed by the story and hoping that it becomes his own claim to fame aspiring director Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrink) decides to track down the long lost picture and its infamous director. This leads him to Concannon's daughter Alexa (the beautiful and oft naked Sophie Monk), now working as a stripper in a biker's pub. After convincing her to partake in his endeavour he takes a camera and two filmmaker friends to retake that which had been forgotten.Dark Castle Entertainment has an unrivaled gift of releasing crappy horror flicks in succession with the odd gem hidden behind a cascade of crappiness. This one unfortunately flows down straight to the gutter together with flicks such as "The Reaping" or "Thirteen Ghosts". The main flaw of all these seems to be exceptionally poor character development and script inadequacies substituted by extreme gore. This time around we actually have a lot of promise in the movie, which runs like a "Friday the Thirteen" ripoff for large parts of its runtime, only to counterpoint this with some "Scream" type movie references. Some scenes hilariously hit the spot, with Baby-Face's out-of-character response to one of the hapless victims a delightful highlight of this otherwise poor movie.Despite some admirable qualities the twist introduced two-thirds into the movie largely fails. In a big part due to the incapability of William Sadler and Sophie Monk to carry their roles. Their bickering about the art of horror films is irritating and badly written, which doesn't help in the plot resolution, as this was the issue that would either carry or drown the movie (especially the poorly scripted debate between old-fashioned slashers and modern gorno). It isn't entirely a waste of time and those fans of over-the-top gore (occasionally going into gorno territory), but given the limited emotional involvement and the sub-par payoff it seems like a wasted opportunity for a decent horror. As it is I would suggest passing and seeking out the Rob Zombie "House of 1000 Corpses".
