When the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and his flirtatious wife Caitlin sweep into war-torn London, the last thing they expect is to bump into Dylan's childhood sweetheart Vera. Despite her joy at seeing Dylan after so many years, Vera is swept off her feet by a dashing officer, William Killick, and finds herself torn between the open adoration of her new found beau and the wily charms of the exotic Welshman.

Sorry, this movie sucks
Fresh and Exciting
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
movie starts and magic startsas the first scene shows up suddenly it will grab your full attention all the lights and shadows are so magically fitted in the scene that you cant even blink during the movie the color gradients of each scene give you exactly the feeling that exist inside the movie and the fear loneliness , temptation , lust and all the feelings are visualized with great use of lights , shadows and colors in one word a cinematic masterpiece and in camera works you see all this great close ups that are really rare in other movies. the actors performance are just marvelous and how it fits in the time period of the movie. the only thing that the movie lacks in is dramatic music that boost the scene up. and with that budget that movie is just great give it a try and you wont regret
While I understand that director John Maybury is focusing on a drama in his "The Edge of Love", he's taken some liberties that are both distracting and detracting. The liberties I found to be his fudging and distracting use of color and texture changes for WWII settings in London. If you're trying to make a semi-serious period piece, tweaking the backgrounds to be noir-ish doesn't work. Now that that complaint is out of the way, what works in the movie is actually the 2nd half where Sienna Miller did the best work of the lot of the actors. Indeed she really looks tormented, jealous, but free-spirited in front of the camera. Knightly is satisfactory as are the others Rhys and Murphy. I enjoyed the teasing and flirting of the 2 gals with the Dillon Thomas character, and while the courtroom scenes lacked a sense of gravity or conflict, the movie has a better 2nd half out of the city-setting and pomp. The war scenes feel too obligatory though. Overall, it muddles through.
The amount of cigarettes smoked in this film reached ludicrous proportions. Despite wartime rationing there seemed to be continually one on the go with every character, apart from the babies. it was so silly after the first hour or so I began to laugh out loud. Was the film funded by Imperial Tobacco or Forest ? If it was the BBC must be held to account.Did concerts really take place in bomb shelters ? Did soldiers really take Sten Guns and grenades and live ammo home on leave ? Did British women really wear trilby hats ? This looked like 21st Century boho chic, not the 1940's. The scene were the paratroopers jumped out of the Dakota with the Stens in their hands was really silly. They would have lost them in the slipstream. Also I'm sure no one actually appeared to be wearing a parachute.Without the crypto lesbian stuff this film would have had no interest at all. Even with it there was next to none. It seemed added to add tabloid prurience to an otherwise deathly dull film. The acting was actually quite good. It just seemed that the script was total pants from start to finish. I actually felt sorry for the cast by the end who all deserved better than this.
Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller stars in the story of two of the women in the life of Dylan Thomas. Knightley is Thomas's boyhood sweetheart he re-encounters during the Blitz. Meeting at a bar they reconnect, however things become complicated when Thomas' brings his wife (Miller) along the next time he meets her. The women hit it off and things proceed at pace until the trio are joined by the man who will become Knightly's husband. This further complicates things as jealousy begins to show its face.Beautiful to look at, extraordinarily written and wonderfully acted (everyone disappears completely into their roles) this is a sumptuous feast for the eyes and the ears. It's so nice to see a film about adults being adults. On a purely visceral level I really enjoyed watching the film because the film is so artistically pleasing. Rarely have I ever seen a film that is this beautifully crafted. The trouble with the film is I'm not entirely sure of everything that happened. Something seemed to be missing and a couple of times I had to replay the film to see if I missed something. Its not bad, but its not completely satisfying as a result. (I tried to look up on line to see how much of the film is true but I couldn't find anything) Still I think this is a film worth seeing. It's a beautiful film for adults with probably the best acting the leads have done.
