Neighbors Spencer and Louise have bonded over their fascination with a recent string of murders terrorizing their community. When a new tenant named Victor moves into the building, all three quickly hit it off. However, they soon discover each has his or her own dark secret. As the violence outside mounts, the city retreats indoors for safety. But the more time these three neighbors spend together in their apartment building, the clearer it becomes that what they once thought of as a safe haven is as dangerous as any outside terrors they could imagine.

A different way of telling a story
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
It's October 1995 Montreal. There is a serial killer out on the loose. Victor (Jay Baruchel) is moving into a 4th floor walkup. His neighbours are cat lady Louise (Emily Hampshire) and wheelchair bound Spencer (Scott Speedman). Louise is working at a local Chinese restaurant where waitress Johanne (Kaniehtiio Horn) is killed one night in the streets. Victor walks Louise home from the restaurant every night. Spencer turns out to be able to walk and somebody poisons Louise's cat.Director Jacob Tierney is able to get an offbeat eerie vibe sort of like 'Shallow Grave' except nothing so cool and thrilling. It's a serial killer thriller that lives on its atmosphere for the most part. Baruchel is quirky cute. Hampshire is a quirky adoring cat lady. Speedman is good as Spencer hiding a secret. The three of them form a very compelling trio. The movie does need more tension. It would probably help to condense the timeline. It's good creepy throughout with an underlining low key dark humor.
i just lost about 2 hours of my life watching this s#!t,it had nothing interesting and i already knew who the killer was.. .such a cliché.. it was sick and not worth seeing.i don't recommend it.. and now i will just write random things just to have 10 lines of text because i can't post it otherwise and i am really angry for expecting too much from this movie.i read the pro comments and i said i should give it a shot, but this movie cannot be seen not even if you are way too bored because it will make you fall asleep.i have already talked too much and i did not filled all the lines...as a good movie i would recommend This is England and In Brudges, i really enjoyed watching them.xx
Victor, a tall, lanky, awkward guy moves into an apartment complex in Canada. He's quick to attempt to befriend a girl and her wheelchair bound fiancé. However there's a killer on the loose and things slowly begin to unravel.A very slow and plodding movie yet well-acted enough to keep my interests despite some character motivations that were quizzical to say the least. Even an ending that left many more questions than answers, didn't detract from my enjoyment of the film (that much) That being said, your mileage may vary, just keep in mind that it's much more a quirky character study and NOT a horror film, nor ever much of a thriller for that matter.
Huge flaw: The DNA of Victor's semen in the murdered drunk lady would be matched by the cops with the DNA of Spencer (now dead). They would not find a match, because Louise used Victor's semen for the fake (staged) rape. This makes the whole premise of a solved case totally illogical. I can't believe they did this. Awful and obvious storyline flaw. I suppose they could have fixed this flaw with a variety of other solutions. Too bad they didn't because it was a good movie otherwise. The other weak part about the plot is that you know Spencer is the murderer about 4 minutes into the plot -- maybe that part was designed. The semen error is obvious to anyone who ever watches 48 hours or Cops or CSI or Dexter, etc. etc. Hollywood and its Canadian counterparts have turned us all into backseat drivers in the crime business!
