Excellent but underrated film
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Have I seen the poster for this movie before seeing the movie, I'd never have watched it. It's so fail I don't know where to begin. Compositionally and conceptually it looks as if it's been done by a 3 year old. Then the text below hints that the movie is a comedy. This movie is a few things but certainly not a comedy (granted, it brings out a few giggles occasionally but amongst much crying material).I'm not surprised nobody bothered to see this movie when it was so ridiculously advertised. I agree with someone saying before that the movie is underrated. It very much is. I will name a few reasons why I feel this way.It gives you a sense of how difficult it was for women to be independent in those days. There weren't many eligible lifestyle options for women then. The most common one was to get married and be a house wife. When that failed, all hell broke loose. You can either accept and ignore your whoring disrespectful husband or take off and hope for the best. There are no embellishments. People show their true faces. Their honest ugly selves. Lack of love between the sisters, well, hatred would probably be a better word for it. Lack of love for your own children, shown by Georges father when he refuses to take his son in. That's what some people really are like. People are self-centered and selfish creatures, by evolutionary design. If they aren't, it's only because they've been touched by stardust.I expect many many great things from Logan Lehrman.
Usually, the people on the road are wanderers, hippies, addicts etc., but no ladies with no coping experience - to crown with 2 juvenile children. But so is the plot, based loosely on a true story - and it seems credible. Of course, the events happening are not so wild and crazy as among the first mentioned types, but it is still catchy to follow - first and foremost thanks to 2 great performances: Renée Zellweger as Ann Deveraux (Zellweger has proved herself to be a versatile and talented actress) and Logan Lerman as George Deverau (so far, his 2nd best performance after Charlie Kelmeckis from The Perks of Being a Wallflower). Of course, most of supporting actors are not bad either, Kevin Bacon could have spent more time on screen though. This warmhearted, realistic movie, with both ups and downs, successes and disappointments, should definitely get more attention and praise. If not in cinemas, then on TV - a pleasant time is guaranteed, including for families with teen children.
This movie was inspired by the real-life story of George Hamilton. After his mother got tired of his dad's affairs, she took him and his brother on a 50s road trip adventure in search for a new husband, on a real 1953 blue Cadillac Eldorado convertible. This movie used authentic props like cars, clothing, music, vocabulary, accent, color shades and hues, buildings, and everything straight from the 50s. It even has multiple references to 50s lifestyle like the nostalgic metal foil TV dinner, famous 50s actors and even the show "I Love Lucy".The movie is funny, sad, quirky, witty, stylish, charming, sweet, smooth, intelligent. This slow-paced screen memoir is not the kind you enjoy with popcorn and soda, but with a glass of wine and sushi. Also, I made a fan music video of the movie, tell me what you think— http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX0q4eOYVx4
Another road trip film, but this is somewhat different,it is based on the events of one summer, when Renee Zellweger & her 2 teenager sons make a cross-country trip. They wind up in Los Angeles, where younger son subs for his brother in a movie scene & GUESS WHAT. He turns out to be George Hamilton. For those unfamiliar, he is a handsome good-looking actor who has been in film & TV since the Mid- 1950's, He is also known for his use of sunglasses.Thr film is really a tribute to his mother superbly created by Renee Zellweger. Kevin Bacon is also excellent as his father. Logan Lehrman is the teen age lad that eventually become the actor George Hamilton , He is relatively new to the screen, He is good enough to have a long career in front of him.The remaining cast are all top performers headed by Eric McCormack,Mark Rendell, Chris Noth,Nick Stahl.Steve Weber, Troy Garity plus others from film & TV. The film is dedicated to Merv Griffin who worked on this film for a few years prior to his death. The period is the 1950's & seems very detailed & accurate, plus a very good song score. The rating is PG-13, its really not a film that small children would appreciate. All others especially for those that remember the time frame it is a must. This is a fun film,it may or may not be all true, I had a good time watching it, & thats all that counts.Ratings: ***1/2 (out of 4) 91 points (out of 100) IMDb 9 (out of 10)
