Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
How sad is this?
For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Man... I don't know if it was the weed, but I laughed the hell out of this film. I have never laughed so much (I swear). And, even though it is a comedy, the movie follows an actual pattern and is not a bunch of jokes dropped all over the length of it. The jokes are funny, the acting is hilarious, the story is a little predictable, but still interesting. This movie made my day and somehow got me laid.I'm not gonna go into spoilers (Mostly because you don't need them to know what's gonna happen), but I'll say it's got a hungover-like style and lots ridiculously funny stuff.
This will inevitably be compared to the "Hangover" movies, as it should, they are very similar... However, I still think that "Search Party" has enough originality to stand alone on its own merit... I wouldn't say it's better than the Hangover movies, but if you're a fan of those movies, then you should like this as much as your least favorite in the Hangover trilogy... It's definitely has its laugh out loud moments... I'm also a fan of "Silicon Valley", so it was a welcome sight to see "Urlich" and "Richard" with leading roles in this movie... The movie was well acted all the way around, with plenty of people you'll recognize from some of your favorite shows... It's a party genre film so there is a lot of drug use in it, but that's to be expected, otherwise it's free of propaganda... It's was an enjoyable waste of 90 minutes...
I was so surprised with the amount of funny bits on the beginning of the movie.. the idea of three friends always looking out for each other and always stepping in any little thing is not that new but the execution is so fine and fresh and the comedy is shining in abundance, the plot grows smoothly and peaks properly in obvious clear way. The screenplay was really connected and funny,, it was written by Andrew Waller and Mike Gagerman as their second script ever but when you mention it was co-written and directed by Scot Armstrong knowing he co-wrote "The Hangover Part II" that would give you a hint ;)As for the cast; gosh they were all Hilarious, T.J. Miller is the loose cool guy who doesn't care, Thomas Middleditch is the paranoid always in trouble Naked and being bossed around ;) and Adam Pally is the guy who have a life but it gets ruined by his other friends.. it felt a lot like the cheap version of The Hangover with a less payed guys .-. Adding to the cast, Jason Mantzoukas and J.B. Smoove was a really nice touch.Overall,, it was really enjoyable as a comedy movie ,, its catchy i laughed , i think that's what matters.
It really is not a good film, it's not even average. With just few laughs throughout the movie I went out disappointed. Not because of my expectations, not at all, but by the fact they thought this movie could actually work. Hangover-ish plot, extremely bad acting and forced dialogues. The black dude posing as Spaniard was one of the worst. I laughed couple of times but most of the time I was laughing in disbelief one could actually put something so crappy on screen. Why show a bare crotch? why use such lame lines? So many questions, so much money spent for nothing. All my bitterness aside- it had some really funny moments but they just couldn't save this movie.3/10
