a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
I only watched this movie once, and didn't necessarily feel the need to watch it again. But it is amazing. All plot lines, and occurrences in this movie are just great. It is a nice little gem of a movie for people who like Pulp Fiction and Fight Club type movies. It's a crime movie that is very, very funny. The plot is a guy who used to be in crime, and is now a straight arrow, has an ex-crime partner come by and drop a huge suitcase of dope off. The main character does not know this, but must now defend his home from the drug dealers and miscreants coming to his house looking for his buddy and the dope, and all before his wife gets home.Great characters, great story, great time.8 Stars
It's hard to describe this movie in any other words other than "total crap".It manages to be full of violence and confrontation, and still be totally dull, stupid, and without entertainment value, without educational value, without realistic value, without theatrical value, without amusing value, okay, lets just say "without value".It starts off with a gorgeous woman being murdered for trying to do her job. Apparently, it's cool to the Nazis and women because she's got dark hair, and is probably poor, working at a menial job, so there is a fan base there, but no heterosexual guy could like it.But even as a chick flick, it is hard to imagine even a woman liking this waste. There's nothing interesting. The people aren't interesting, the dialog isn't interesting, and nothing seems natural. It looks like actors getting together, smoking pot, and making a movie.I can't say there's a plot, because if there is, you'll sleep through it. It's duller than "Equus".This movie would make Richard Burton look interesting (and that's no crack on his acting. He's a great actor, but his technique was "realism to the point of boredom").There's the nazi fan base, and the women, and maybe some gay people, though I hate to put down gay people. And this clique tries hard to sell this movie with excessive votes on utube and probably IMDb. Those who would vote against it just don't bother to vote, or forget what this movie was.It was total crap.
This crime drama is an obvious rip off of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs; the difference being that the aforementioned are both great movies due to the writing genius of Quentin Tarantino. The script of Thursday lacks any of the sarcastic satire of Mr. Tarantino's masterpieces; that being said, I've seen a lot worse in this genre, and the saving grace here is a naked Paulina Porizkova(yes, the sports illustrated swimsuit model) in a bizarre rape-reversal scene and an underused Mickey Rourke as a corrupt cop.The violence is over the top and the eighty four minute running time moves quickly, so the bottom line is a passable film to kill a Saturday night with a possible double feature with a follow up of Boondock Saints(first one & not the sequel), a far superior flick.
ONE GOOD THING: This hidden treasure of a crime drama is incredibly entertaining from beginning to end. An example of low-budget film making at it's best, writer/director Skip Woods uses seemingly everything he could find (ex: Lamborghini, super model, cow phone) and an ear for dialogue to add levels of satire to the plot and all of his camera set-ups.ANOTHER GOOD THING: This movie seems to be made for the DVD era, with several segments that comprise a larger story (similar to the work of Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Desperado). Each "chapter" of the film features Thomas Jane's main character spending one day at home encountering quick and memorable performances by Aaron Eckhart, Glen Plummer, Mickey Rourke, Michael Jeter, James LeGros, and an unforgettable role by Paulina Porizkova.EVEN ANOTHER GOOD THING: Not exactly a "good" thing, but incredibly shocking and memorable... Every person who sees this movie remembers one important scene. Much as Deliverance will always be remembered for it's awful rape of Ned Beatty, Thursday will go down as the movie where a woman forcibly rapes an unwilling man. Unforgettable.ONE BAD THING: The title makes people think it is somehow related to (or derivative of) the "Friday" series of films featuring Ice Cube.GRADE: A+
