I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Rob Reiner directs this slightly dark political biopic. Quickly taking the reigns of the nation in the wake of President John Kennedy's assassination, Texan Lyndon Baines Johnson assumes the leadership of the U.S. during an engrossing problematic time. Woody Harrelson is outstanding in the earthy and tacky portrayal of the Southern Conservative Democrat forced to deal with the Vietnam War (hardly mentioned) that politically brought him down. Keeping his hatred of Bobby Kennedy to simmer, LBJ does get the 1964 civil rights law passed, plus Medicare and Medicaid. . . while bombs keep falling in Southeastern Asia. Reiner's LBJ may not sit well with political history buffs, but is a film well worth watching. It is a gripping look at a sometimes disappointing and often vulgar presidency. Scenery is outstanding and with some exceptional good acting from Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson, Michael Stahl-David as Bobby Kennedy and Jeffrey Donovan as JFK. Of course, Harrelson is in command all the way. Also featured in the cast: Richard Jenkins, Bill Pullman, C. Thomas Howell, Kim Allen and Michael Mosley.
In my humble and respectful opinion; the portrayal of LBJ in this film is to portray him as more of a good man than I believe him ever to be. He had never liked the Kennedy brothers or what they stood for. JFK was not as involved in Civil Rights as he was portrayed. Bobby was the more compassionate and passionate Kennedy that had much more personal involvement in the Civil Rights movement. More so in his later years as Senator (before his assassination) before he could be elected President. LBJ hated that Bobby was running for President and didn't have the courage to face yet another Kennedy defeat so he quit before he could get the chance to even compete. Personally, I have always enjoyed Rob Reiner and his movies but this one just isn't his forté. If people would just do their research, they would find that Woody Harrelson's estranged father, Charles Harrelson, was an speculated as an American organized-crime figure. He was convicted of assassinating John Wood Jr. who was a Federal Judge. Charles Harrison was also a CIA MK-Ultra operative who may have been involved with the Assassination of JFK. Rob Reiner should stick to movies like "Stand by Me" and "When Harry Met Sally".
Great acting all around. The rest of this movie is a total train wreck. Directing is horrendous. Editing is pointless and annoying. Screenplay is absurdly dumbed down and misses some of the most important time periods both for the man and the country. Flashing back and forth to the point of dizziness. Music is saccharine. A truly shameful effort
I was a young nurse during assassination of Kennedy and the following Viet Nam war and remember the toll it took on LBJ as evidenced in his public appearances. Many years later when I moved to Texas I toured the LBJ Ranch. I believe Woody Harrelson and Rob Reiner did an excellent job portraying a complicated man. Although definitely not wholly complimentary, the strength of his character, his commitment to his country and his valuing of human rights through education and the expression of personal liberty did do justice to the man and his life.
