Pretty Good
For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Perfection. From the minute I started watching this film I was locked in. Fully attentive. Beautifully written and acted out. 10/10.
Incredibly charming take on the topic of drunk sex and abortions. This film is really authentic and genuine, I really enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend, I loved the characters, especially the main character, the choices she made were not completely stupid and the one night stand was also really good. I don't normally enjoy films like this, I find them cheesy and boring but this one was good and I enjoyed it. This movie is what Trainwreck tried and failed to be, it is humorous, clever, subtle and thoroughly enjoyable. This film feels and looks real. Jenny Slate and Jake Lacy were incredible in this film and they really convinced me of their talents in this movie. Do not expect anything too original though, It does follow the common steps of American rom coms but it is good for what it is and I would watch it again.
I can't express how much I love this film. It's funny and heartwarming and a new favorite of mine. The characters are relatable, the story is funny and captivating, the actors are truly remarkable, and the setting is amazing - New York. This film is unique in it's voice, but something we can all recognize. It has the feel of Man Up, but with a different age demographic and location. It's quirky, fun, touching, a hidden treat. Jenny Slate, is amazing in this film. She's found her voice and her niche and she shines. The supporting cast does just what you want from them. They support her without stealing the show. It's a simple, sweet story told in a truly unique way. I honestly can't say enough things, this film is remarkable!
Overall, an excellent movie. The main character is likable, while pathetic and struggling with her parental issues. (Dad a puppeteer and mom a university professor, cold as a Greenland Christmas day). She is pretty enough to land the lead character and flawed enough to get our sympathy. We can all relate to her Jewishness in NYC and her overall basic atheistic view. After her boyfriend dumps her, she meets a genuinely nice guy, gets wasted and bangs him. What results is a positive pregnancy test. Here is where the political views of the director and crew are apparent. The mom and older sister are ol skool feminists and relish the choice the women have, taking into consideration not at all the man's feelings nor the fetus'. When I rented the movie, I thought that there would be a child. There never was. The would-be hero, a nice guy, who wished to continue a relationship with our flawed protagonist, consented to whatever she waned... which in the end was the disposal of a human being. And that's where the film ended. I was deeply saddened, having to have made a similar choice myself, being in poverty, etc. but I chose life, and while I watched this movie, my questioned choice moved about us, creating chaos, but, wow, did I ever love him.
