Best movie ever!
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
In other words, this film is a surreal ride.
This is a brilliant movie, because, is a fresh subject hardly ever use in horror movie. Too bad they didn't made a second part, the first left me longing for more.Husband and wife circus owners, give a ride to an eccentric old gentleman who came to see the mermaid show. At his mansion he shows them his mermaid. Husband abduct the mermaid. He plan to take her to U.S.A. On the voyage the mermaid makes a meal of the crew, and believe it or not get wife pregnant. Mermaid has her own agenda, and take them for a tour of her own. Turning a beautiful self, into a horrible monster with one thing on her mind human flesh, and survival of her species. But there was only one survival, who live to tell the "tail,". What happened to the mermaid offspring, well that is made for part 2, however sadly part two was never made. The acting, character and story are worth watching, it delivers and the special effects too.
She Creature (2001) * (out of 4) Sam Arkoff remade several of his early cult classics but this has very little to do with the original 1956 film. Carnival owners discover a mermaid and bring her to America to show off and make some quick cash but it turns out this mermaid is a little crazy. This film has some gore, nudity and sexuality but none of that equals a good movie. This thing is pretty slow from start to finish, although a couple neat ideas are brought up but nothing ever gets done with them. The performances are all weak, the story all over the place and I'm really not sure there was any director working on this picture. The original film was pretty bad but this thing is worthless.
This movie evokes some mixed feelings in me... it is carried by the two female actresses in main roles, and that storyline (pretty much the only one anyway) should have been followed to the end. The mermaid is superbly played by Rya Kihlstedt, in difficult circumstances (topless, mostly in water, with no dialogue). She is beautiful, exotic, sexy, vulnerable and deadly - what more could one ask for?It is a real shame that the end is a cheap ripoff of the "Alien" movies - totally unnecessary and pretty much ruins the movie. It is amazing that this movie couldn't get financing outside of ridiculous "Creature feature" serial... With proper budget and improved scenario this had the potential to be a hit, probably instant classic of the genre (you can quote me on that).I am giving this a 6 overall: Rya Kihlstedt - an easy 10 Rufus Sewell & Carla Gugino - around 7 each, Gugino had more screen time but wasn't really that good the script & directing - overall 6, but the end ruins it down to 3
At first it was boring, until you hear of someone dead first. Then the girl talks to the mermaid and finds out she understands her. After that when the mermaid crawls out of the tank, she eats the black man, which I thought was sad. Then the mermaid turns into a girl which I thought it was obvious after that. The girl then turns into the creature which looked like the alien from Aliens. I couldn't tell in the end if those were babies that the creature was looking at or fish. I saw it again and they were babies. Now I know. There is another thing I don't know, what happened to the mermaid creature? Did she jump out of the boat and went to the island or get killed? Overall, I thought the mermaid creature was the best thing out of the movie.
