Load of rubbish!!
Boring
It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
There is no funny scenes . The film is not bad, but advertising is as a comedy makes it worse than it is.
Anyone expecting this movie to have you laughing 'till you cry would be sadly disappointed. Despite this, the movie "Cyrus" delivers an interesting and possibly relatable story to anyone who enjoys a little but of dry humor. Many people must have been misled when they discovered that there would be a film coming out with 2 of possibly the funniest actors right now, Jonah Hill and John C. Riley. What was expected to be a raunchy, cuss filled laugh your a$$ off film like "Superbad" or "Stepbrothers" turned out to be something much better than that. This is the rare type of comedy where you laugh half as much, but find the story twice as funny. The characters, especially John and Cyrus, play their roles so genuinely, without the type of forced humor and cheesy clichè lines and development that has overtaken the industry today. The territorial feuds between Jonah Hill's character, a sheltered mommy's boy, and John, played by John C. Riley, unravels and quickly expands into a burning hatred. The humor is situational, you won't find many one-liners that get you laughing till you die, but you'll find that their characters speak much more than words and that if you are into these types of comedies, you will not only appreciate this clever film, but adore it.
While watching the story unfold throughout this movie I must confess I was rather riveted to the screen .... but when all is said and done I was left with a unsettled feeling about just what I had watched. The three main characters all have a disruption in their past that has caused them to approach life hesitantly. John suffers a broken relationship and is now a recluse. Molly's problem is not exactly made clear. And Cyrus is an obese manipulative liar with what is easily described as an Oedipus complex. These three come together, split up, them come together. The ending is happy and hollow.
The user reviews for this movie are tiresome in their complete blindness to the humour (albeit pathos) in this beautiful movie.Social embarrassment is with us all every day. Think about the subtle and brilliant writing of Ricky Gervais! Don't sqirm, just enjoy the humour in our ridiculous tradition of pretending something that's true is'nt really happening. The situation in this film is happening a million times a day in real life, and the Duplass brothers have captured it magnificently. Relax your uptight views and see this for what it is, a classic and brilliantly portrayed aspect of human life. Please stop whinging that this was;nt the COMEDY you were all expecting, IT WAS A COMEDY THAT APPEARS TO HAVE GONE OVER YOUR HEADS!
