Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
The acting in this movie is really good.
Cuz now we have a movie without character chemistry at all. I just watched it and I remember virtually nothing that happened in the movie. The atmosphere is gorgeous, the setting makes you feel that you're in the 80's. The scenery is good. Camera work is on point. The acting is there. It is a beautiful picture over all. But pointless. The story itself is very simple and crowding it with useless scenes (like walking around enjoying the sun) turns the film into a static boredom. The main flaw is a lack of chemistry between actors. The picture looks perfect with a close-ups, establishing shots or long shots but whenever there is a conversation - everything is ruined. No matter who this is - father and son, two main characters or a random girl in a street: you can not believe theirs relationships for a second. It's all horribly directed. The motivation is completely unclear cause a lot of details are missing. Why do characters initially liked each other? How did parents form their point of view? What does "Call me by your name" really mean? The only true star of the movie is a fly who also appears in the final scene. The fly was lively, memorable and worked with the environment well unlike the rest of the cast.
The movie was incredible. When I think about watching it, the thing that is most stuck in my head is the conversation between Elio and his father about life and its freedom and uniqueness.The film has an extremely depressing ending. Which I hate, but I can't help but love at the same time. Movies are made to evoke emotions, and this movie sure did.
This by far is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Although I wish the ending would have been happier, it goes based off the premise of the book so therefore it is a ending that fits. I have watched this movie on more than one occasion and it just gets better each time. If you haven't seen this, you need to!
Overlong, banal, not credible, uninteresting characters, no message except perhaps as a boring cigarette advertisement. Those who rate it as perfection on screen can search for advice on the real masterpieces of the art of cinema.
