Youth in Revolt
October. 30,2009 RAs a fan of Albert Camus and Jean-Luc Godard, teenage Nick Twisp is definitely out of his element when his mother and her boyfriend move the family to a trailer park. When a pretty neighbor named Sheeni plays records by French crooners, it's love at first sight for frustrated and inexperienced Nick. Learning that she is dating someone, Nick launches a hilarious quest to find his way into Sheeni's heart -- and bed.

Wow, this is a REALLY bad movie!
Perfect cast and a good story
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
This film tells the story of a socially awkward teen, who meets a local girl and fall in love with her. He tries many methods to make them be together in one place, without regards to the potential consequences of their strange and reckless action.I think "Youth in Revolt" is quite interesting, is focused on the well behaved nerdy guy. He has an altered ego telling him to keep displaying antisocial comments and acts, so they can get expelled by the school. Surprise, the new school is further away, and more mishaps occur.Honestly I did not find the film very funny. There has been a few jokes which I liked, but the comedic material is far and in between. There are many minor characters which I got confused as to who they are, and how they relate to the story.
Youth in Revolt (2009): Dir: Miguel Arteta / Cast: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Jean Smart, Fred Willard, Ray Riotta: Excellent teen comedy about one's wayward methods of obtaining goals. Michael Cera plays a teenage virgin transfixed on a female whom lives under strict religious ruling. In order to impress her he creates a fictional personality named Francois who is daring and chaotic. Director Miguel Arteta is given a great screenplay as well as quirky animated sequences. Cera plays off the longing of hormonal urges. By creating an alter ego he goes from wimp to daring stud defying authority and his home life. Portia Doubleday plays the straight forward Sheeni who can control Cera but ultimately she is trying to break free of her religious bindings. Jean Smart as Cera's mother who goes from a deceased trailer trash boyfriend, to a cop who fails to maintain control over her son even during a hilarious discipline scene. Fred Willard is hilarious as a neighbor who hides illegal aliens including very funny scene of a miss in communication where clothes come off during a drive home. Ray Liotta plays a cop who ends up romancing Cera's mother while growing frustrated with issuing discipline. While its rebellious nature is celebrated, it remains an intriguing comedy recommended to anyone who remembers the pressures of youth. They will appreciate what this cynical yet observant film is all about. Score: 9 / 10
This film was a big thrill for me. i did not expect it to be so good. It is a unique flick. I like it boldness, in terms where screenwriters can take u. It reminded me of Kevin Smiths film Red State which based itself on giving the viewer what he expected the least. I advise this film to all because it such a fun break from all the sequels, prequels and other clichéd garbage Hollywood feed us now days.Cast did a good job transitioning book into movie, Cers's best performance(also great in Scott Pilgrimm vs the World) I watched this film never knowing it is based on the book, bet your ass i'm gonna read it now.it is my first review, the only other film that i wanted to write review for is In Bruges, but it is already received pretty good and this movie is underrated for some reason. Sorry for my bad English, i am Russian.
Pheew! What a joy it is to see Michael Cera playing a role so different to his usual role, granted he does okay that role in this film but he also plays the wonderful Francois, the alter ego of Nick Twisp, the alter ego that turns Nick into the rebel that will help him bag the girl. Youth In Revolt has it all, humor of all types, lots of raunch, a great script, and a terrific cast that are all totally suited to their roles. This movie is based on a series of young adult novels, however to me this movie was very adult and probably aimed more at an older crowd, the sex talk and raunchy jokes are hilarious and I think you have to have some life experience to fully understand the film. Michael Cera is so great, yes he is very very very typecast but he finally does something different and it really suits him, he should look out for more roles like this in the future. The supporting cast are divine, I particularly loved Jean Smart as Nick's mother, she is very reminiscent if Kim Cattrall in this role, but she's always really good, Portia Doubleday is good in a breakout role but her character comes so close to being hatable, I kind of just wanted Nick/Francois to forget about Sheeni and go pursue an equally rebellious gal.Comedy fans rejoice, this movie is original, hilarious and extremely entertaining, fingers crossed for a sequel and fast. :) hooray for Nick Twisp!
