I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Absolutely the worst movie.
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
This IMO was created as a comedy showing how life plays us all as pawns and there is always at least two side of a story and so on. Or may be the intention was just a politically incorrect funny movie. Well what they did was something dim and unfunny. Waste of film if it was shot on celluloid which I doubt. Waste of good acting talent: there were a few good actors in it, hopefully they've got paid. I think the writers and the director had no idea how to make a movie and thought that may be a comedy is a bit easier to do then anything else. They failed and the '10 commandments' are miserable sketches having nothing to do with humour or any food for thought. I don't know what is worse, that or ceaseless flow of CGI-effects instead of content we see in 2010-s. Probably 'The ten' is worse because it pretends to be a comedy and deceives the viewer. Do not watch this movie. No entertainment value, no any other value at all in it.
It's a very deceptive film, so deceptive I almost stopped watching it about 20 minutes into the film. I don't do that, I hardly ever consider the option. Lucky thing is - I stayed with it, thinking - "it's supposed to be 10 different stories, maybe some would be good." I was wrong - It's not 10 different stories it's rarely is when the same director and writers are responsible for the whole lot. But the start does look like a series of bad SNL sketches. So stupid and surreal they seem to be there for the sheer provocation value. Irreverent to the point of sacrilegious, I don't mind either as long as there's a reason for the provocation, if it's just for provocation's sake - count me out. Well in this movie there is, but only when the stories start to connect you can begin to see the "whole picture". This takes very careful and clever writing, very deftly disguised under the utter senselessness of the stories. The amazing thing is the quality performance of most actors and actresses - it's hard to do when the story is so unreal. Two points I liked less about the film - not all the stories integrate so well into the complete pattern of things, and the sign off song. Yes it's cynical and witty as required, but it's like the writers didn't trust their audience to figure it all by themselves - if they didn't they probably wouldn't be there to see the final song and even if they did I'm not sure they'd be following the lyrics closely enough. Bottom line - it's not funny, it's not trying to be funny it's satirical and thought provoking and you'll see it too if you hang in there past the first 20-30 minutes.
I stuck around for four of the ten 'stories'. I failed to find one iota of humor in any of them. Not even a hint of entertainment! Also, I found the emcee character, and his 'wife', to be dweebie and very annoying. I am truly concerned with our society in knowing that some folks found this despicable mess at all funny. I also worry that there are people who would put up the money to produce this unadulterated trash, and that the performers (some well respected names) would lower themselves to appear in it.Since I only saw about 40% of this disgusting debacle, I can't say it is the worst movie I ever saw, it is merely 40% of the worst movie I ever saw.Run from this toxic waste!
This was so bad that it makes me think about "The Producers." Did someone need to lose a pile of money so they backed a film that they knew would be too awful to succeed? I've got to hand it to the actors that they put their all into it and seemed to have a good time. Winona Ryder was paired with, erm, an unusual and unlikely character and she still did a great job. I'll give this film a single star just because of her performance. But it was really just a terrible film. It seemed to me like they were aiming for so-tasteless-it's-funny, but it was too crude and completely lacked cleverness.
