I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
This might be the biggest crap i ve ever seen. It is militant, it is violent, it is unreflective, it reduces moral voices to justications of war
This is one of the most offensive movies ever made. The thrust of the film is that Australians really have an enemy in 21st century South-east Asia. Are the makers of this shlok feast stuck in the 40's?! Hopefully this film marks the grave of the careers of all who made it.
At 1:45 into the movie, I noticed she was holding the chainsaw by the HAND GUARD, not the actual handle. Let me explain this..The hand guard is not a handle, it's a GUARD, made to prevent kickback injuries. This helps prevent you from disfiguring your head, face, neck and shoulders and keeping you ALIVE.So before I continued on, I went back to IMDB/Amazon to check the good/bad written reviews.I skipped to the action scenes and they're so ridiculous lol. These kids wouldn't stand any chance..then again, it's just a movie...at least make it a little bit more realistic?Again, I didn't watch the whole movie, so take this with a grain of salt. I imagine if you have no experience/knowledge in firearms/military/etc, it's probably believable and enjoyable.Australia would cave so fast (no offense). Better hope America and NATO protects them forever :P.
Ellie Linton (Caitlin Stasey) and Corrie McKenzie (Rachel Hurd-Wood) are best friends in the small Australian town of Wirrawee. They plan an outback camping trip during the Australian Day holidays and invite a few of their classmates; Corrie's boyfriend Kevin Holmes (Lincoln Lewis), Ellie's neighbor Homer Yannos (Deniz Akdeniz), townie Fiona Maxwell (Phoebe Tonkin), preacher's daughter Robyn Mathers (Ashleigh Cummings), and Lee Takkam (Chris Pang). The group witnesses several military planes flying overhead. They return home to find an invasion by an unnamed Asian force. Most of the town has been rounded up. The nearby bridge is a key access to a port captured by the enemy. The group struggles to survive and fight back. The plot is basically Red Dawn. The kids especially the girls are all YA pretty. There is some YA romancing. The action is better than bad. It has good real and good CGI but not good realism. While there is action, the tension is never high. This is derivative. It doesn't have the guts to name the invaders. Caitlin Stasey has good screen presence. The acting is generally good enough but the material is not that great. There isn't anything great or that original to recommend here.
