Good concept, poorly executed.
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
If you are a fan of the news team, this is a must watch 'cause it does have its moments, just enough to enjoy some more madness from the team.Cast is again, very good. Now, the story is not that good, as expected and I am angry that the makers tried to set it up as a story in the first place. Hatching up a story isn't difficult, but if it is to shine, you better make a good one. When I heard some deleted scenes & shots were being collected into a single movie; I rejoiced. But the final product is too shabby. And quite boring, too. Now I know how editors have a very tough job. Thank God, these scenes didn't come up in the original movie. But still, it was kinda fun to watch the team pulling Veronica's leg. Also, not to mention,t he script is more obscene here!BOTTOM LINE: Anchorman fans should give it a try. Others can skip!
I just saw this the other day and felt compelled to write a review! This movie is most certainly not one to watch if you haven't already seen Anchorman:The legend of Ron Burgundy, but if you have, and you loved it (I do!) then this is a truly welcome addition. The story comprises of a sub plot intended for Anchorman that was dropped (presumeably because it wasn't that good) involving a terrorist organisation called "The Alarm Clock" hence the Wake up Ron Burgundy! title. The Alarm Clock are easily the worst terrorist group in the world having no political agenda, and not really knowing what they are doing, end up kidnapping Veronica Corningstone to use her to broadcast their as yet undecided political statement. So it's up to the rest of the intrepid news team to save her. There are some truly hilarious bits in this film, one where Champ Kind is professing his undying love for Ron in the car but everyone pretends they can't hear him is very funny, and another where we learn that the seemingly stupid Brick Tamlind was in fact the leader of a group of soldiers in the Vietnam war with the other news team members is very funny. All in all, it's one for the fan boys, not for the people who didn't like Anchorman, and it's only a bit of a laugh anyway, it was never a theatrical release.9/10
I'm not sure why so many people on all sorts of different sites keep claiming this is some sort of hodge-podge thrown together after the "original" this is the original ... it was even spotlighted on entertainment tonight ... yrs ago ... they showed the scene where ron complains about the font during their preview of the film and then interviewed Christina about working with will this movie was screened for test audiences and bombed ... i mean - its in the Voice-over at the beginning of the film ... they tell you right up front what this movie truly is ... the original that bombed ... they then took the bits that worked ... the romance between ron and veronica ... the breakdown of the gang when ron spends more time with veronica ... the "bond" that champ has with ron its a totally separate and original film - and i really think it does a better job of capturing the 70s news vibe ... less silliness - the gang fight - the flute solo - baxter getting punted - those are all very funny ... but got away from what the title claimed to be i know its not fitzcarraldo - but i think there's a better story in this version
When I picked this up I was looking for a brand new Anchorman adventure but I found a new version of the Original. It follows the same basic storyline Ron and Veronica fall in love, Brian, Brick, and Champ are all jealous. But with the addition of Alarm Clock, A group trying to bring the truth to San Diego, and a few never before seen parts , Like when Ron and Veronica jump on the table and Ron screams "Lets make a Baby!" or when Ron gets shot saving Veronica's life, that are pretty fun, Its funny and almost as good as Anchorman. Since it comes packed with the Unrated Anchorman, Its a pretty good buy. It also has some new Special Features, Such as Rehearsals and Cast Auditions, and it also reveals more about Champ's obsession with Ron. Gross! I give it an 8/10!
