Marie, a film producer, returns to her native Russia to find her birth parents. She quickly learns they are dead, and she has inherited their long-empty farmhouse. At the farm, she meets Nicolai, who claims to be her twin brother. Events take a terrifying turn when the two spot a pair of ghastly doppelgangers and the house itself seems to propel them toward a fate they should have met 40 years earlier.

It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Well, it is undoubtedly a creepy film. There were a couple jump scares but for the most part it is a slow burner. I am more of a slow burn person anyway. I think movies like that can really get into your psyche and stay with you long after the film is over. Torture porn is just cheap and forgettable. What I liked...I liked that this was set in Russia. I think that gave it a cold atmospherical tone and also allowed us viewers to connect with her sense of uncertainty. Different language and lifestyles really takes you out of your element and that can be frightening in itself.I also liked the house. It was beautifully creepy and I also liked that it was being narrated by her daughter.I liked that the brother ended up being seduced into his death by a naked girl!! Guys y'all are so gullible. Everything else was just sorta, meh, to me.What I didn't like ...I didn't care for being haunted by your future ghost. That seemed a bit confusing to me. I didn't like that we didn't learn more about the heroic actions of their mother. It wasn't bad but it's not the best. It's good for a rainy day.
It all depends on what you are looking for.Abandoned features beautiful cinematography, an interesting score and excellent photography, but will infuriate any viewer who, like myself, expects a logic, coherent storyline and sensible dialogs. Besides, it is so drawn out, repetitive and full of false scares as to compromise any entertainment value. It works best for those interested in a piece of art or those who like kaleidoscopic, almost hallucinatory atmospheres packed to the brim with nonstop frantic action and explosive sounds, allowing the spectator no pause to come up for air and/or think about what's happening.
THE ABANDONED is an admittedly eerie but ultimately disappointing Spanish horror film, one that's been filmed in Bulgaria. It sees an adult brother and sister visiting a haunted home where they are subjected to attacks by spirits and hauntings related to their past. As a whole the film is much less than the sum of its parts; the storyline feels flabby and unfocused and the film as a whole has far too much of the characters just wandering around and not doing much.Nacho Cerda has the ability to shoot a dark and decrepit-looking movie and there's atmosphere here in spades, but it's the lack of a decent storyline which put me off. Lest us not forget that this is a guy who came to prominence for AFTERMATH, a video nasty of a corpse being subjected to an autopsy. Cerda still doesn't have much more to say about anything than that. Other than a performance from the reliable Karel Roden (HELLBOY), THE ABANDONED doesn't have much to recommend it at all.
Its been a long time since i was at least a little touched by a modern horror film. I kind of watched this mostly because i had nothing left to watch that night. Without spoiling anything I can just say that I was blown away with this ghastly movie. I see it in the same way as Lucio Fulci's masterpiece The Beyond. Yes, it got plot holes and everything is not spelled out for you. Its like a surreal nightmare. Actually it shares a lot with The Beyond. An eerie house, zombie-like apparitions, the same sense of dread.Gory deaths and so on. It might not be for the ADHD generation (You got Transformers!)or people who wants answers for everything. But for true genre fans its a true gem. Not to be missed!
