Good concept, poorly executed.
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
A light hearted, silly movie. Its a fun movie for when you aren't seeking an acting masterpiece. Better than many comedies that over reach for a laugh. Eugenio Derbez nailed his character.
I watch every kind of movies: good and bad, as I read books good ones and bad ones to enjoy more about good stuff. It is like suffering dark to enjoy light. I took the risk to watch this movie and the veredict is : HORRIBLE. There is no story line, just jokes, jokes, bad jokes, and more cheap jokes. The acting of Eugenio Derbez is horrible, mediocre, average and forced. I really dislike the mix of comedy and melodrama, is ridiculous. Mr. Derbez when directly to invite Donald Trump to the premiere, he obviously refuses to go. But this was not an act of latino solidarity, it was more an hypocrite and manipulative promotion to increase entries at the box office. How to be a latin lover - is just a flat, vulgar, boring comedy and a waste of time.
Finding himself dumped after 25 years of marriage, a man who made a career of seducing rich older women must move in with his estranged sister, where he begins to learn the value of family. How to Be a Latin Lover is one of those films that you expect to be bad but there was also a part of me that hoped that for something at least entertaining and i was surprised to see a guy seducing women over the age of 60 and 65 plus it's really not that funny and you get moments like his wife trying to walk back the stair and she is like super slow or him painting his hair all black and trying to basically "play" the gigolo once again but it's neither funny or anything it's actually quite boring. (0/10)
A nice bilingual comedy introducing Eugenio Derbez to American audiences starring alongside Selma Hayek and Rahpael Alejandro. Maximo is a gigolo that after twenty five years of marriage finds himself dumped for a younger man. Maximo must move in with his sister and nephew. Along the way he learns important lessons of friendship and family. Bonus points for Rob Lowe as a fellow gigolo and the scene in which he "plays" a cop complete with tear-a-way uniform. Another bit of trivia in the beginning of the film there is a younger Maximo that dives into the pool, that is Eugenio Derbez's twenty five year old son! Enjoyable rental - just be sure to watch with the captions unless you are fluent in Spanish.
