You won't be disappointed!
it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Like in Hogfather, Death is pretty much lousy done, which is shame because Death is the most awesome character in Discworld series. But beside that, it is absolutely fantastic. I thought it would be impossible to adapt Pratchett to feature film and preserve it's original charm, but movie definitely possess spirit of written Discworld. The Luggage and legendary Del Boy in role of Rincewind are an inexhaustible source of entertainment. :D9/10
Our family loved this movie. We have seen both Hogfather and The Color of Magic. Both are excellent movies. The Color of Magic has some slow spots, but the ending is wonderful and worth the time spent. The characters develop very well. For the most part the acting is very good and the special effects are excellent. The cinematography overall is of very good quality. The only drawback to the movie is there are some scenes that were not necessary and over-explained the story. I have not read the novel so I do not know how the movie compares to the book, however, the movie is very enjoyable, and in being so respects the work of the author. We highly recommend this fun, family movie.
Technically, this movie is very good. The effects are well done, with very high quality computer graphics for a "Made for TV" movie, that won't stand behind theatrical release movies. The outdoor scenes were all well produced, placing the actors in a "real" discworld. The customs and environment are in a child-movie style, because of the story's background (it came from a series of books made for children). But that doesn't mean low quality. It just adds to the comical overall feeling of the film. The actors followed this same comical/child-oriented line when playing their roles.About the story, it never gets boring, and a lot of things happen to the main characters. They practically cross the world in a single adventure, including a journey in "outer space". Multiple parallel plots also take place. In the end, this 3-hour movie entertains you the whole time. The main motivation is very original: following the steps of the first tourist. And the world description is ironically fun. This story has 2 main perspectives. From the Twoflower point of view, it's a story about having an open mind. One may have much fun and learn a lot when he keeps his mind open to new experiences. From the Rincewood point of view, it shows that one must have persistence; and also that, even in the face of failure, your value doesn't diminish. You're not defined by your failures and/or successes as perceived by the others. In the end this is a family movie, worth watching by itself, and even more with your children (if you happen to have any).
This movie was a huge disappointment for me....it's slow, boring, and long......the characters are somewhat funny, but that doesn't make the movie much better.....slow, boring, and barely watchable. If you want to watch this movie cause you enjoy magic and you are extremely in love with it you could have some joy out of it....now i understand why this movie was distributed directly to the TV... . . . .I was shocked when I had seen that this movie has more than 7.2 average score...i was really really interested when i saw this, but then as the movie started I realized that this is not the movie I expected it to be. It has a nice story, i really love disk world but it should have been done much better than this, so I rate it 3 out of 10
