To me, this movie is perfection.
How sad is this?
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
I recorded this on VHS a few years ago as it was on TV and the reason is because I am a sucker for Rom coms so I decided to check it out.The movie is kind of a rip off of Chasing Liberty where you've got a president's daughter who falls in love with a guy who is a secret agent.Katie Holmes(aka Mrs Tom Cruise) plays Sam a young girl who's dad is the president of the United States (aka Micheal Keaton). She is sick of being stuck in the white house she decides to move to college and become a normal teenager. She meets a guy named James(Marc Blucas) who is smitten with but what she doesn't know is that he is a secret agent in disguise so that he can keep a close eye on her for the president. The cast is OK,I don't really like Katie Holmes who is too sly and not very friendly, Marc Blucas is hot in this movie as a secret agent,Micheal Keaton as a president OMG they should have gave it to Ralph Fiennes, the music was alright, the chemistry between Blucas & Holmes was nice and sweet. The only downside I have to this movie is the horrible ending as she drove off in her Volkswagon Bettle and you hear the narrator saying and she will return in the spring and James will wait for her but thats another story, I thought she'd kiss James and live happily ever after but NO the stupid people who came up with it wanted to give it a crap ending that will put us to sleep (zzzzzzzzzzz). Best scene was that dance (just the way you look tonight)which I truly enjoyed and the rest of the movie was great but not Oscar worthy but the stupid beeping ending was awful. For the film a 5/10 for the stupid ending 1/10
Samantha Mackenzie, (Katie Holmes) plays the role of a President's daughter who has to live under the close rules of the White House and has Secret Agents always at her elbows no matter what she does and really has no life of her own. Michael Keaton, (President Mackenzie) is a good President and loves his family but like any President he has very little time to spend with this wife or daughter. James Lansome, (Marc Blucas) is a Secret Agent who is Samantha's special body guard and after being with her for quite a few years, begins to fall in love with her and does not seem to realize what is happening. However, Samantha feels a great warmth growing inside of her whenever she see James Lansome and a spark starts to become a flame between the two of them. There is some behind the scenes between these two lovers and all kinds of problems come between Samantha and James. This story is very realistic as I am sure many such things have happened in the White House with quite a few First Daughter's. Enjoy.
Okay, the idea of the American President's daughter breaking away from her life under the media microscope and going to college isn't a bad one, but I felt it could have been done more justice.Nearly the whole film felt like it had been dipped in chocolate fondue it was that sappy.I expected more excitement, the kind of exciting and hilarious adventures you see these teenagers have at college in movies, but in this film hilarity and vigour failed to ensure. There were a few moments which were entertaining though, and that was when Sam (Katie Holmes) was trying to make James (Marc Blucas) jealous of her so he would show his affection for her (which entailed buying a heap of pregnancy tests). Yeah...that and the bitch fight scene between Sam and Mia (Amerie) were the only parts in the whole film that really appealed to me.I often wonder why professional and grown up actors go for such lame parts in teeny flicks like these...But then again, work is work and if I was getting paid some good cash then I would degrade myself to that level of shame.Speaking of teeny movies, this one's a little soft for the mental capacity of the average teen, so I would recommend it to tweens instead. It's predictable and insipid.I mean, who could stand to watch Katie Holmes (pretty as she is) waltz around in slow motion for nearly a quarter of the movie? This film is really badly written, with sappy and symbolic dialogue crammed in waaay to much.Leave it for the tweens. If they can stand it...
Wow !! I love this movie First Daughter..Such a refreshing and sweet one. The chemistry between Katie and Marc is just so amazing and beautiful. I do not watch English movies that much but I just happen to watch this movie in a TV channel and I go bowled over by the simplicity and sweetness of the movie. Since then I check that TV channel every now n then in hope that First Daughter may have been broad casted. Katie looks simple yet so beautiful. Marc is also so very good looking. Storyline is an interesting one. Presentation is equally interesting. But the ending of the movie is little kind of unsatisfying. I Wish it could have ended in a better way. Never the less, I love it.
