It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

Straight to the point: i know why people may hate this movie. Indeed, there are things in it that really get on your nerves. A condescending and annoying prick of a main character, pseudo-intellectual-and-insightful dialogues which actually make you cringe, and a camera-work so god-awful that you can't help thinking this movie was filmed by blind cripples who were holding a camera for the first time in their lives. But there's more to Roger Dodger than just an everlasting lust for sex and a race to get some. There are moments when you can actually see that even the most cynical and utilitarian people have a heart that can feel. And that sometimes it's much harder to open up and show the real yourself than you are used to thinking.Alone by themselves, the characters of Campbell Scott and Jesse Eisenberg may be pathetic, each in his own way. What makes this movie stand out is how well their extreme diversity and unlikelihood is played out when they are together. It's like the opposite forces of nature collide, producing an outcome that can never be predicted.Jesse Eisenberg did a brilliant job portraying a 16-year old boy who's desperate to find out what a woman's love feels like. Extremely believable in his naivety and all-goodness. I'm sure that almost anybody who wasn't instantly popular among the ladies in that age and had to work his way to the women's hearts can easily connect to the personality he displays. And that's another beautiful side of this film: that while Nick's supposed to be the student and Roger the mentor, it's actually the Nick's ways we see as the proper ones.Still, the movie plays it nice to everybody, not trying to demonize one character and make the other look like a saint. At the end we are given a chance to see some redeeming features even in those who might seem like a cause lost entirely. Which actually leaves some hope that maybe that tour de force wasn't such a bad and useless idea after all. And that was just the right thing to drive Roger Dodger home as a film leaving a pleasant aftertaste, which alone is enough to justify spending your time and effort to watch it. So don't be too judgemental too much in advance.

Okay.. So i stumbled upon this movie title accidentally.. since i had watched Jesse Eisenberg in the social network i thought to give it a try.. the concept is surprisingly fresh which other movies have not explored earlier. Even if the subject was explored, it was not shown in this fashion, which the director of this movie has chosen. Though some people find the content of this plot morally disturbing.. if viewed from a neutral view point with out any judgments, you will love it.The only -ve point of the movie is the camera work, it is shaky all through the movie and can be disturbing at times..Jesse Eisenberg as a teenager done his job excellently. same goes to Mr.Campbell Scott. The scene in the park with Elizabeth Berkley and Jennifer Beals comes close to many youngsters heart.. So, grab a popcorn and a bottle of coke, lay back and enjoy folks. You would enjoy even more if u watch it alone or with male friends.. happy viewing..

Scott is terrific as an arrogant jerk, a ladies man who teaches the fine art of picking up women to his nephew. This is an impressive film debut for Kidd in the triple roles of producer, director, and writer. The screenplay is quite good, full of keen observations about the male psyche. As producer, however, Kidd should have hired a competent director. So annoying is the camera work in this film that this man should not be allowed anywhere near a camera. Not only is the shaky hand-held camera nauseating but most of the shots are in extreme closeups with lots of blurry images. It is a shame that the good acting and script are undermined by the atrocious direction.

There are plenty of mini-synopses here, so I'll skip that part, and get directly onto the "viewers beware" section of this review. The acting is good, the sets were competent, and the direction was far better than the script deserved. The titular character, Roger, is intelligent, witty, and remarkably reprehensible - but then, guys who haunt the singles scene are. The scene in which he's coaching his nephew in the fine art of sneaking peeks at women is a perfect example of how this character epitomizes the worst view of men and their sexual urges. "Tie your shoe - there's no shame in falling back on an old standby"? Once he's actually talking with women, one begins to wonder how he's ever gotten through a night without wearing someone's drink - this level of casual, cheerful boorishness is remarkably rare and grating.I'd hoped that this would be a reasonably realistic look at the guys who view seduction as a sport - what it turned out to be was a caricature set up for the sole purpose of making the audience want to knock him down.If 'Fear Factor' and 'Jackass' are your favorite television shows, you may enjoy this. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
