Great Film overall
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
This romantic comedy is based on the 1953 Audrey Hepburn classic movie entitled Roman Holiday.Mandy Moore stars in it as the 18-year old daughter of the President of the United States who wants to attain independence.Included in the cast are Matthew Goode,Jeremy Piven,Annabella Sciorra,Caroline Goodall and Mark Harmon.Anna Foster has lived a privilege life and has always been in the public eye especially after her father,James Foster was elected as President which kept her in constant presence of the Secret Service. Then during the family's trip to Europe, she managed to escape the agents and went into a trip of her own.During her brief time alone, she meets and falls in love with Ben,a British boy with whom she kept her social status secret. Both enjoyed a great time together.Later, she finds out the real identity of Ben and what he is all about.Obviously, the movie does not escape formula in the sense that everything becomes clichéd and predictable until the end.Too bad that the story becomes somewhat unfocused as the story progresses.Mandy Moore tried to do her best but her charm and appeal isn't enough to make it a more-than-an-average movie.Only young viewers particularly kids and pre-teens will surely enjoy it.
Anna Foster (Mandy Moore) is the president (Mark Harmon)'s daughter. With 6 years in the White House and 8 years in the governor's mansion, she's 18 and tired of her overprotective security after a disrupted date. They make a deal to have only two agents Weiss (Jeremy Piven) and Morales (Annabella Sciorra) while she attends an opera on their Prague trip. Her wild friend Gabrielle takes her to a party and she sees all the other agents following her. Anna sneaks out and hops a ride on Ben Calder (Matthew Goode)'s moped. She never lets on that she's the president's daughter, and he turns out to be an agent. Without telling her, the president orders Calder to take her on a cross European trip ending at the Love Parade in Berlin.Mandy Moore is perfectly likable if somewhat a little bland. That basically describes this movie. There isn't anything particularly wrong but there isn't anything particularly great about it. The problem is neither Moore nor Goode are strong comedic actors. So it's a passable romance with a little bit of comedy sprinkled in by Jeremy Piven. Also the possibility of a reveal for Matthew Goode is taken away immediately. So the movie just doesn't have the big tension.
The story is simple : Anna is the USA president's daughter who wants to live a normal life, without being followed at all times by bodyguards. So when she arrives at Europe with her family for business she ripes the chance and gets away with a young English photographer, Ben. But she doesn't know that Ben is an under covered agent, working for her father. The rest is typical romantic-comedy script. The first part of the movie is promising, as it is the most original one. However, in the end, it doesn't escape from the typicality of it's kind. The wrongs of the movie: -The secondary story, of the two agents following the couple is cute but unnecessary. -The couple ,Ben and Anna, fail to convince. -The story gets "massy" at some parts. Now, the good things about the movie are the great shoots of the scenery and the clever dialogs. All in all, a nice movie for a Sunday afternoon, but not one worth remembering.
Anna Foster(Mandy Moore) is the teenage daughter of President James Foster(Mark Harmon) and First Lady Michelle Foster(Caroline Goodall) who's not too happy with the Secret Service agents interfering in her personal life. Thus, when the First Family heads to Europe for work, Anna wants to cut loose with her old friend, Gabrielle. She is more than happy to help Anna protection, which includes Weiss(Jeremy Piven) and Morales(Annabella Sciorra) and escape. She does so by getting a ride from a British photographer Ben Calder(Matthew Goode), who actually is an undercover agent assigned to protect her. When the President learns that Anna is with Ben, he orders that the agent continue his act and try to present himself as a new friend so that she can experience some freedom, but in a controlled fashion. As the two make their way across Europe, accompanied by McGruff(Martin Hancock), with Weiss and Morales trying to track them down and flirting themselves during that course of time, Anna and Ben start to develop feelings for one another. As love sparks, both must reveal their true identities to each other, that takes the movie to the next level. Good music, especially Who Needs by Jason Mraz and good locales make the movie worth watching.
