Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Why would anyone watch a movie that features Seth Green as a gangster or any movie with Vin Diesel for that matter? Personally, I had very little interest in this film, but I wanted to see it because of John Malkovich. He is so funny and no one plays the bad guy, better than he does. As always, Malkovich was brilliant, in an otherwise awful movie. Knockaround Guys is the story of four gangster's kids, who are tired of being nobodies, and decide it's time to make a score of their own. A score that they manage to royally screw up. It's a good premise for a movie and it was written pretty well. They did a great job casting veteran actors like Malkovich and Dennis Hopper to play the crime bosses, but they really blew it when it came to casting their kids. Seth Green isn't believable at all, seriously, I think the little kid in the beginning of the movie could kick his. They try to cover up the fact that he doesn't fit the role by making him a drug addict, but it doesn't work out. Vin Diesel is another one, he may be terrific in crazy action films that hardly have any lines, but when the role is something of substance, and requires a personality, Diesel is the last person who should be cast. He is one of the worst actors I've ever seen, but there is a bright side. When Arnold Schwarzenegger first started acting, he was pretty terrible too, but after gaining some experience, he blossomed into a superstar, who gave us some great films. I hope the same can be said about Diesel in a few years, until then, unless you're a die hard John Malkovich fan, you can avoid seeing this giant mess of a film.
Just an awful, predictable, crude film. There's a reason it was in the can for about forever before it was released. Vin Diesel's soliloquy on being a tough guy drew (inadvertent) laughs, but there was nothing else with any entertainment value. And to think I could have seen The Transporter? Ouch!To paraphrase Vin's speech: 500 acting classes. That's how many classes I took to be a big Palooka in every film I'm in. And before I get to the 500, I realized that acting classes are useless with writing this lame ...Given the array of talent and big names, I had high hopes for this film, but there's no "there" there. It's like a slow-paced, American version of a Guy Ritchie film, with a bad score.
I had some money and went down to the Video Hire place just don the road. I was n the mood for action, so I went into the action section. I saw "Knockaround Guys" in the action section so I hired it. I went home to find myself putting it on. I noticed that Vin Diesel was in it too. I'm not really a fan on Vin Diesel. I don't "hate" him, just don't care for him or find him "cool." I did like the rest of the cast. Barry pepper, Seth Green (I did it mainly for him), Dennis Hopper and John Malcovich. I finished watching the movie and I must say I was pretty impressed. I loved the story. It's about these Mafia guys that are trying to impress Dennis Hopper by giving him a bag of money. only problem is he bag gets lost thanks to Seth Green and they set out on an adventure to find it. I loved the cast. Barry Pepper, Seth Green, Dennis Hopper, John Malcovich and (Dare I say it) Vin Diesel. I usually don't find Vin Diesel all that good, but in this movie he did pretty good. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't "great", but "good." He just didn't try too hard to be cool or anything. He just suited his role. And that's coming from someone who 99% of the time dislikes him. For a low budget movie t had a great cast and put together a very good story. So this low budget movie did well. The only thing that really disappointed me was the action. What action lol? In my video shop it was in the action section and every website I go to says it's action. I've looked everywhere for reviews where maybe complained about it having no action. It didn't seem to worry anybody. It kind of worried me ab it, because it looked so good. There was one scene, however, when Vin Diesel bashes the guy n the pub. That Sen is action, but it's the only bit I know of. The pacing in this movie got slow at times, but apart from that, pretty good. if this movie had action like The Rock movies or anything like that it would have really been a terrific movie. Overall still good, but could've been better. 7/10
I rented some movies this weekend and "Knockaround Guys" was a risk rent I call it, I never heard of it and wasn't that interested. But I mean, what a promising cast: Seth Green, John Malkovich, Dennis Hopper, and Vin Deisel. Being here on IMDb, I noticed that there were a few put downs on the film, mostly feeling that there was a miscast. Especially with John, in some ways I agree, he just couldn't do a good Italian accent or wasn't too threatening. But what can I say? I love the guy too much! Being a more update mob movie taking place into today's society, I thought it was very interesting. Matty is the son of a very famous mobster, causing him to loose job opportunity after job opportunity because of his name. When he finally decides to join the family business with his friends, they have a little stumble transferring money that is owed to an under boss that can cause Matty's father's life. Together he and his friends must get that money back in the best way possible: The Godfather's way of doing things! This was a great action flick and no, it's not really a decent mob movie. But I did enjoy it, maybe I was just in a good mood, but I feel that this is a pretty under rated film that should be given another chance. We'll just have to forgive John, you know he does his best! 9/10
