Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

After watching the 1988 Appleseed back to back with the 2004 version I can only say that the reviewers saying the old one was better are either delusional or remembering badly the original. While this film kind of skips some explanations that could enlighten people exposed to the Appleseed storyline for the first time, it is superior in both story and animation technique to the 1988 version. And that being a 3D animated film which, by my standards, have to really shine in order to surpass a hand drawn alternative.The conflict in the first one was an afterthought, the villain an insane person, the heroes police trying to find him. That they were Deunan and Briareos was incidental at best. In the 2004 version, the sides are not so clearly delimited and the scope of the entire film is only revealed closer to the end. The actions scenes are well done, the characters well defined, the tension real.Is it the best anime I've ever saw? No, absolutely not. However it is difficult to call it names, like a lot of other reviewers did. I can imagine someone who just watched Ghost in the Shell (the remade version, obviously, because they don't watch anything older than 2000) and comparing Appleseed to it and saying it is crap. Instead, try to compare it to the 1988 version or to all the over-sized boobs, summarily clad fighting girls that just melt when they see the high-school male hero. Come on!Bottom line: the story is not brilliant, but the anime is well done and worth a watch. I am off to see the newest Appleseed movies and series. That should tell you something about how much I enjoyed it.

This apple ipad thing was awful. I couldn't take more than 10 minutes. Graphics were straight from video game (I think my video-card could render that kind of graphics in real time). Some bitch killed in clichéd matrix -style 10 orcs without breaking sweat and same time macho guys get picked up like cherries from a tree. No dialog whatsoever in first 10 min. Plot seemed to be just shoot and smash everything that moves. I fast forwarded a lot. Still no meaningful dialog. Many modern video games as a lot better and enjoyable cut scenes than what's shown in this movie. I didn't like the anime style so i just quit watching. Final Fantasy (movie) was a lot more impressive in many ways and wasn't half bad movie. You can call FF a movie but this is just some game engine demo. 1/10 stars.

With nice cel-shaded graphics and fantastic CGI in a nice blend, Appleseed will not disappoint the eye. There is enormous attention to detail, reflections, shading and other small things. Many of the scenes, especially involving the giant city complex, could have worked as art if you froze the frame.The story is pretty unoriginal though, which is a shame. I won't tell you anything, but it's likely you'll see references from a wild collection of sources. Characters have varying depth, and some felt like they needed a bit of fleshing out. Lip-sync was so-so and the same goes for most of the voices(in Japanese).Music is cool and futuristic, with a few surprises thrown in(Basement Jaxx? What the?) and fits the scenes nicely. Sound follows the same pedantic attention-to-detail pattern as the animations. The action is very, very cool, even though it's not a pure action fest.While the storyline doesn't feel too much like Manga, the animation really is. Manga eyes can be bugging, but it was OK. The transformer-esquire mechs where really cool even though they were very similar(then again, I've never watched Transformers).So, in closing, is this worthwhile? Sure. It's storyline is not so complex you need to scratch your head, like other anime(Akira or Final Fantasy), and the animation is a feast to the eyes. Give it a try.

i have seen Appleseed at least 5 times and it only gets better with each viewing. the detail in city planning, mechanics and characters is just great, the action is unbelievably good and the plot is really really good. As a regular movie, it would be one of the best sci-fi i have seen, and i have seen a lot of them. The fact, that its anime makes it match better, allowing creative freedom and making all of the directors visions possible. 10 of 10 ad that is the minimum i could ever give this anime. if you have seen and liked Ghost in the shell then you will just love Appleseed. I have not read the manga and cannot comment on them, but i tell you, the movie is really worth watching.
