SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?

Highly Overrated But Still Good
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
25 years later, four former college buddies rent a place, get together and do an outrageous amounts of alcohol and drugs. They remember about other times they got together and partied and then about their personal failures, although I would have swapped places with at least two of them. Then PLOT SPOILER they start to kill themselves based on some old nearly forgotten 25 year old pact they signed when they were all stoned. It really did seem stupid. Some dark comedy moments. The whole film was miscast. This should have been a Tarantino production with a neat sound track and James Franco, Gary Busey, Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and /or Samuel L. Jackson. Then add some dark decent dialogue with biting flashbacks. This was an opportunity missed for a cult classic.Guide: F-word and nudity.
Having just watched this on Netflix and read all the IMDb reviews, some of which are very thoughtful, I'm stunned that no one seems to have picked up on the central point of the film - even though it's made explicit by the filmmakers. It's drugs, substances, intoxicating: if yourself, or your friendships are based solely around intoxication, you're going to be in a very bad way at certain, important moments of truth. So, as we get more permissive about drugs - which isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's good to have brave movies like this one, revealing what happens when lives based solely on intoxication realize they no longer have a tether to who they really are; and likely never did.
This might be the worst movie I've ever seen. The only redeeming quality is the soundtrack, and maybe a few funny quotes. A bunch of selfish California Hollywood types who think their life is oh so bad whaaaaa. Yes, their lives are terrible but it's because they never got it. And this movie doesn't get it. Don't waste your time. The plot had a lot of potential. Disappointing to see several of my favorite actors partake. I've lost a lot of respect for them. This could have been a great movie but instead it is another example of the simple-mindedness coming out of Hollywood. Life is too short for you and all of us to get all caught up in this kind of crud.
I Melt With You left me in a dark fog very depressed and confused as to what comes over people. It's a dark and tragic story. Although critically panned currently holding a 13% Rotten Tomatoes Rating, I think these critics were confused. This isn't about a quartet of 40 somethings in the midst of a midlife crisis. This movie's about one's selfishness and the regret those feel upon realization. Rather than face the music, we watch these guys turn it up and further their frustration by fueling it with excessive drug use. If anything I believe it teaches us the dangers of addiction and greed. It shows us in living color that there are always consequences to your actions physically and/or mentally. A very wise old man once told me "you're never supposed to drink when you're sad or mad". These characters were both and the drinking was mixed heavily with various drug cocktails. After reading countless negative reviews on this film, I feel like a real outcast when I say I enjoyed it and this is why. If you haven't experienced this, picture this: You're at a big party. You've been drinking, taking shots, talking to everyone, dancing, singing, jamming to the music, etc. What started off very loud, quickly gets soft when you find yourself either waking up or sobering up in your bed, on the couch, or on the floor and you quickly begin to assess your surroundings and evaluate the night you had before. I've been on that scale as the party-goer and the designated driver. I've come to the rationalization that you can only appreciate this type of movie when you've emulated all the perspectives.
