Rahul Seth is a dashing young millionaire who believes he is "western" enough to rebel against his mother and grandmother. They are not too keen about his Caucasian girlfriend Kimberly who, to make matters worse, is a pop star. Before you can say "karmic intervention," Kimberly dies in a freak accident and Rahul is devastated. Instead of allowing him to mourn in peace, Rahul's mother sees the opportunity she's been waiting for. She threatens to call off his sister's wedding unless he finds himself a "nice Indian girl." Rahul enlists the services of Sue, a fiercely independent escort whom he believes to be Hispanic, and therefore not "married" to the conventions taught to young Indian women. With a wink in her eye, Sue accepts the deal to pose as his Indian bride-to-be. She needs the money and having never been a fan of the typical Indian male, she feels her heart is safe. The charade begins....

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC is an ill-advised reworking of the classic Virginia Andrews novel about a grandmother keeping her grand kids locked up in the attic and the trouble which ensues. The film was already made, memorably, back in 1987, so why the producers felt the need to do another generic version I have no idea. And I wish they hadn't: everything about this version of FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC screams play-it-safe predictability. The more shocking aspects of the novel are merely hinted at and what we get inside is a slick and glossy production with zero power. The only interesting performer here is the reliable Ellen Burstyn, tackling a horrid character with bravado, but the rest are terrible, particularly the young actors who are completely devoid of charisma. A sequel, PETALS ON THE WIND, followed.

My problem is not with the incest, as we know that's wrong! And the guy and girl weren't actually brother and sister. Plus, a storyteller has the right to tell a story of incest--if they want! The problem with this movie is the age of the youngest of the two and the difference between a 12-14 year old and an 18 year old, esp. when the oldest is a man! Wasn't Shipka(Cathy) too young?! You have an adult in almost mature love scenes with an ACTUALLY younger than 15 yr old girl! Don't they usually cast young looking 18 year olds for these roles?! You mean they couldn't find someone like that for this role! You open a statutory rape issue, unnecessary hormone infusing(with a young girl), possible addiction, possible suicide, etc. that goes along with introducing sex into a child. It may be going on, but it shouldn't be and should be tastefully done when the story is told in a public forum. You may even create a hormonal relationship not built on love between the two. Where were the parents of this girl(she was 12-14, depending on what info you believe)? It seems like severe neglect charges should be brought up against them and it seems like all profiting parties(Lifetime) should be severely criminally liable(crime happening for hire) for what happens in the movie! Great movie otherwise, but sometimes there are more important things than the quality of a movie! A pervert or pedophile manifesto(Lifetime edition)!

If you watch the original, and compare both films, you will notice the 2nd film seems to have a cheaper budget, its rushed, acting is poor, and the film ambiance is not there.. its seems as though its rushed. the original has you feeling its real, a better story and more detail.. the new one is badly written, a lot of original story is missing, and the sets look like set, rather than the feeling you get from the original...the closeness to detail is missing which makes a story, the connection between bro and sister does not feel right, and if they are going to make a set, make it so its close to the original..when you watch both, i feel you will agree with me that the first film is much better.

Victoria Chase should have been cast in the Lifetime Original Movie "Flowers in the Attic", as its over-dramatic, self-indulgent mother.I always thought that Heather Graham could act well, but this film proved otherwise. Did she never have any really difficult moments from which to draw? I saw the original movie way back when, and was surprised to see a remake. Remakes tend to promise much but add nothing. This one seemed to subtract a lot for the mere thought of a sex scene. While Ellen Burstyn's character was certainly unlikable, she couldn't make me hate her. I felt sorry for her. That never happened with Louise Fletcher. She found a way to make her character truly evil.Equally, I never felt the sympathy for the children--it was all two dimensional. They were just there, bored. I kept waiting for one of them to pull out a phone and take a selfie. The crew did a good job, however.
