Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
I eagerly waited for this movie to come out as I knew about De Niro's part in it, and I was not disappointed with the results. The Ages Of Love or Manuale D'Amour is a movie that shows picturesque passages of Italy thus letting the audience mix with the story in a still, yet amusive plot that is prompt of sweet, credible and comic relationships. It is a film which contains interesting stories and shows De Niro's versatility proving again the actor's will and ability to transform himself into different characters while showing a new side of the actor, that I myself, having seen most of his works, have never seen before. Perfect for a calm afternoon if you're willing to relax and have a good time.
Pleasant surprise! The director Giovanni Veronesi presents us with a film with a format already used in films directed by other directors, but with a unique sense of humor ... When the story moves toward mawkishness, Veronesi immediately "speaks to us", "Hey, you're watching a comedy, remember?" And then in a matter of seconds the laughter comes spontaneous, magical ... In my opinion, Carlo Verdone and Donatella Finocchiaro give us a real "show" the interpretation! Magnificent two with the episode number two! Robert De Niro once again shows that it is an extremely versatile actor ... His strip is comic and the comic actor knows to be dosed ridicule ... And Monica Belucci? Beautiful, lush mature at the age ... ready to be "harvested" with a seductive aspect ... Cinematography made with care and that captures the atmosphere and Italian ... On a scale of 1 to 10, vote is 9.
A truly wonderful film and not the typical romantic comedy. a film to see and talk about after you seen it. De Niro is, as most of the time, superb, and all the Italian actors are good as well.I was very skeptic to the film since I had heard nothing of it, but I find it even better than "love actually" that is a similar film.SPOILER ALERT: there are some fantastic scenes in the film; among others De Niro striptease, but the true greatness is in the dialog and the (maybe) new perspective you will have on love, cheating, honesty and a lot more things that concerning living. I would truly recommend this film for everyone to see, maybe young people wont appreciate it as much as 25+ but its still a funny film.
Spoilers I live close to Italy and I have often found it unfair how they are usually portrayed as lustful beasts with no principles, Italians apparently have no problems with these allegations judging from this film.It features three stories at different times in the lives of three stereotypical alpha male leads. Each has some sort of adventure with a woman which for one reason or another raises eyebrows. The women in these stories are incredibly one-dimensional and unoriginal, reminiscent of 1950s B-rate movies. The packaging at least promises three love stories and for some reason one of them isn't even about love. De Niro's appearance makes the movie slightly more passable but it does not redeem the predictable storyline which is almost an insult to the audience.I was watching this with my girlfriend and I have to admit that the film does fall in the category of "so bad it's good". We laughed and commented this film heartily. That at least saved it from being a complete waste of time.
