How sad is this?
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
The acting in this movie is really good.
Defiantly a unique story, the acting was amazing and sincere as well.I'm not a huge fan of the pacing of the movie, but I suppose I'm more used to the traditional plots points of a movie. The story was interesting, I could never guess where it was heading. However, I could never sty fully invested in the movie, at times it felt dragged out.The plot twist at the end was some what predictable, in the sense the idea crossed my mind, but I doubted the movie would actually follow through. It was pleasantly surprising.Overall 6/10 due to the poor pacing and how hard it was to keep invested. But the themes and the ideas behind the story remained strong.
This is a movie with a stellar cast, who have some of their best performances of their careers (espacially Jeff Daniels and Emma Stone). Though is it pretty funny at times, it's definitely no comedy. It's mainly a drama, with a stong indie feel to it, where the plot isn't that important. It really touched me and I had to let the movie sink in for a while. The soundtrack is absolutely wonderful and complements the film very well. I absolutely fail to see why this move has such a low rating, I guess it's because people expectet a comedy or a romcom, which it really isn't. I just think it best to watch this movie without expectations and emerse yourself in it.
A writer with no inspiration and no friends starts a friendly relationship with a local girl. He asks her if she could come to his house and be a babysitter but it seems there is no baby to look out for. Although her charges are expensive the writer is willing to pay her for the provided services. Once in a while her wife passes by and misunderstands her relation with the young girl and soon the two begins to argue. So the movie is humble, the type that doesn't reach anywhere. Lack of variety in locations, characters or the story witch don't develop make it a little boring at a time. Also the mains character imaginary superhero friend removes the film seriousness, I mean this can happen only if you are a child but seeing him on his kid bike and spending so much time among teens does not fall far from the truth. Final words it's watchable for those who don't mind to watch the same scenario all over again and they do not have any new expectations from it.
Some people may find this movie to be raw and very dry, but that's what I find beautiful about it. Last year I had a chorus teacher who was a father to me. He taught me so much about life and to pursue your dream and to never let anyone take anyway your passion. Eventually, the school made the mistake of making him resign. The concept of "Paper Man" reminds me of him so much. It shows how people can come and go in your life, but their impact stays with you your whole life. Jeff Daniels character left a part of himself with Emma Stone's character. Sometimes a goodbye in life is what you need to push you to your next step and to really show you what love is. This is an absolutely beautiful movie and I highly recommend it.
