Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
best movie i've ever seen.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
This Review May Contain Spoiler! I don't understand why so many negative comments. I watched the movie and I thought it was great. No sex scene, some violence but a great idea. It is so hard to find a good movie to watch, but this movie is definitely good to watch. I will give it 9 out of 10. It is that kind of movie that start with a regular idea and then make you open your mouth because you were supporting the wrong person. The acting was excellent and the making was perfect. Finding a movie like this is like trying to find a needle in a cord-wood. I still don't understand why some people did not like it.The idea was new and the suspense existed. What do you want more?
Some fine atmosphere, and some beautifully wintry British Columbian locations, are wasted in "The Tall Man", a thriller by writer-director Pascal Laugier. The plot? In a poverty stricken mining town, children have begun disappearing. These kidnappings are blamed on "the Tall Man", a mysterious figure who may or may not exist. To say anything more about the plot would be to spoil things. Suffice to say that "The Tall Man's" final act consists of a series of massively unexpected twists, all of which have vaguely political overtones. Silly, implausible and not conducive of excitement, the audacity of these twists is nevertheless something to be marvelled at. "The Tall Man" stars a struggling-to-be-taken-seriously Jessica Biel.6/10 – Worth one viewing.
I rarely give movies from the 21st century 10/10 stars, mainly because of bad acting, CGI and soundtrack that just can't compare to movies of the 20th century. But The Tall Man has everything from brilliant acting to an original story.Filmed on the opposite side of where I live in Canada, The Tall Man has British Columbia scenery that looks simply amazing. I won't give away too much of the plot; basically a small mining town is slowly but surely fading away and children go missing all the time. A nurse, Julia, begins investigating when her own son goes missing, and the urban legend of the "tall man" turns out to be something no one expects, especially when it turns out that Julia isn't the innocent mom she pretends to be.Combine Sinister (2012) with Wicked Little Things (2006), and you'll get somewhat the themes in The Tall Man. It was so great to see my favorite actor, William B. Davis, in a role as Sheriff Chestnut, the mining town's police officer. I really missed the Cigarette Smoking Man when the X-Files was cancelled so it was really cool to see him in a role in this movie. I loved the story, it wasn't scary so much as interesting and compelling, and it was the most original movie plot I've seen in a while. The soundtrack was pretty good, not to mention the Canadian scenery (I'm Atlantic Canadian but B.C. is a beautiful place and a great film location). At the ending, the movie sort of leaves a lingering sadness behind and I am glad to have bought it on DVD.I highly recommend this movie, it's definitely worth watching and one of the best movies of 2012 in my opinion.
I can see why this title has such a bifurcation of bad reviews and good reviews. For one thing, if you're going by the description and you're looking for a straightforward film that meets your precise expectations for the evening, this not the film for you or anyone who likes surprises. This film takes you through multiple genres, but does it one at a time. First you think it is a horror film, and then you realize that it's a thriller, and then it gets intensely psychological, closes up with a social message, but then questions that very social message. The message at the end is sure to put off a lot of people, especially those who have children or believe in the sanctity of biological parents raising their own child regardless of the environment they raise them in. But though the film explains the motivation of Biel's character and the 'Tall Man' it also questions their motivations and casts their action in the light of doubt. The acting is intense, the twists are mind-boggling, and you'll finish the film with one of those uncomfortable feelings and questioning what you really believe in. For all of these reasons, this is a spectacular movie, which will NOT be everyone's cup of tea. But shallow sappy sympathy inducing tear jerker's like "The Fault in our Stars" or mindless action packed drivel like "Transformers 20: Something Something Darkness" have never been my style anyway, and controversial themes like this are much more to my taste.
