Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire
Scooby and the gang have their first musical mystery in “Scooby Doo: Music of the Vampire.” It begins when they take a sing-a-long road trip into bayou country to attend the “Vampire-Palooza Festival” – an outdoor fair dedicated to all things Draculian. At first it looks as if they’re in for some fun and lots of Southern snacks, but events soon turn scary when a real live vampire comes to life, bursts from his coffin and threatens all the townsfolk. On top of that, this baritone blood sucker seems intent on taking Daphne as his vampire bride! Could the vampire be a descendant of a famous vampire hunter who is trying to sell his book? Or perhaps he’s the local politician, who has been trying to make his name in the press by attacking the vampires as downright unwholesome. The answers are to be found in a final song-filled showdown in the swamp in which our heroes unmask one of their most macabre monsters yet.

I grew up in the '50s with Tom and Jerry as an occasional treat, and have loved them ever since and in the last few years have seen and enjoyed quite a few of them. A few days ago I began to watch _Tom and Jerry Blast Off to Mars_ and I'm sorry to say I can't give a full review because I found myself unwilling to watch beyond the third segment. My first reaction was that the external view of the parts of the house bouncing into the air as Tom chased Jerry inside it was odd and unsubtle (I know, can slapstick be subtle?) and uncharacteristic of their style.Second reaction was (as another reviewer has said) that the second scene was formulaic, boring, overcrowded and not executed well (though I did enjoy the imaging of the flames on the stove burners). I was starting to feel a a bit of unease about the movie, and the third scene (involving a riding mower) suddenly crystallized it: this may sound odd, but the violence had a vicious character that seemed ugly and a bit disturbing and felt as though the makers were taking the easy way out instead of putting in the effort to make it both over the top and tongue in cheek. Tom and Jerry don't actually hate each other, there's a certain gentlemanliness between them; they go to bed happy at night thinking up how to outwit each other the next day -- and they don't grind each other up with heavy machinery. I don't feel as though I'm being very articulate about this, but it's the best I can do.

This was very entertaining, and not as bad as the rating suggests. The animation is surprisingly smooth and colourful, and the music is excellent and very fitting with the action. Tom and Jerry are their usual likable selves, and don't speak like they did in the rather disappointing Tom and Jerry: The Movie, and I will say the opening scene indeed was hilarious. Their antics are pretty close to the original show too, and that was wonderful to see. The plot isn't the best in terms of construction, but it still works, though the obvious title holds no surprises. In fact, my only real complaint is that the film is too short, but other than that, it is hugely enjoyable, and i am sure kids will love it. 8/10 Bethany Cox

just saw this film on a special cartoon network screening and once again the legendary cat and mouse do not disappoint. This comes after their last motion picture, entitled The magic ring back in 2002. In my opinion I thought that was one of the best action/animation films I've seen, and its a shame it only made it on to video. But this latest installment goes one better. The producers make sure they don't take away that true spirit that Tom & Jerry have carried for so long. There are some hilarious scenes and the usual frantic chases which makes the film complete. All in all I loved this film, it has everything and its a joy to watch. I hope they continue to make solid films with these 2 for years to come. Don't miss it! 9/10

I just saw this movie and I thought it did a great job of staying true to the original shorts. Tom and Jerry never once speak during this film and I think that's a great thing. It also contains the same hilarious chase sequences we've come to all know and love. Billy West provides some priceless one-liners as the voice of Major Biff Buzzard, and even Brad Garrett makes an effort as Commander Bristle. The animation is surprisingly smooth and slick, and you can tell the animators have great love for the originals. Sure, some parts of the story can be a bit cliché, but if you love Tom and Jerry you can't go wrong with this one.
