Captivating movie !
Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
For a movie that has a ton of very funny people, this is not a very funny film. The filmmaker seems to think repeating the clichés of a RomCom and winking sidelong at the audience makes the old clichés funny but really it doesn't. They're still tired and worn out clichés that make this difficult to sit through without getting bored. That is not good satire! I agree, it's difficult to send up a genre: Airplane and Galaxy Quest can't be made everyday. But I feel like this film is more in the same vein as the nth Scary Movie or Not Another Teen Movie: not worth the time to watch them. It's too bad because a lot of good talent goes to waste here.
I must admit, I love the two stars of this spoof of romantic comedies- for me they are what put this movie on the fence. There were a few spots here and there I chuckled at, but overall I just found this movie fell a bit flat. "They Came Together" attempts to spoof such RC classics as "When Harry Met Sally", telling the story in flashback from the perspectives of the two main characters. It sorta takes that genre and pays homage to it at the same time. But I think this film was just a little too late. Maybe if they had made this back in the 1990s when "When Harry Met Sally" was still a little more fresh on people's minds-?? I would recommend instead watching another Billy Crystal romantic comedy- one he himself directed- 1995's "Forget Paris". This film was very reminiscent of that one especially- so reminded me of it, maybe even more so than WHMS...
The humor is classic David Wain ridiculousness, so I imagine the film has such a poor rating because plenty of people stumbled upon this movie for its cast and not its writer/director. I don't feel like wasting time writing an IMDb review people won't read, so I'll sum up: this comedy does a hilarious job poking fun at romantic comedies. This satirical success is akin to "Not Another Teen Movie," but laced with more insane moments that, if you embrace, will have you hurting at the sides from laughter. Just go into the movie with the mindset that this film is ridiculous. Maybe watch something David Wain wrote before going in, in order to give yourself an idea of what's to come.
This is a stupid movie, and I mean it as a compliment. Stupid movies have their place in this world. Sometimes it's great to just laugh. Sometime you don't want to think, you don't want a deep, introspective message, you just need a laugh. This movie nailed it for me.It's a parody of romantic comedies, and it hammers nearly all the clichés. As with this style of movie, the story and plot do not matter. It's all about the jokes, and the writers of this movie did a great job. Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd perfect as the leads. This style of comedy is a great vehicle to showcase Amy's comedic style honed during her stint on Saturday Night Live. Paul Rudd has been a Rom Com lead, and he's also shown he has the knack for stupid movie acting with roles in everything from "40 Year Old Virgin" to "Role Models" to "Anchorman 2". The people that panned this movie must have a pole up their tailpipe. I imagine they're the types that think Sundance Film Festival movies are too mainstream and commercial. Hey, they're allowed to be like that. I'm just glad I'm not one of them. Oh...and once you've watched the movie you'll laugh at the joke I hid in this review.
