Truly Dreadful Film
Simply Perfect
Excellent, Without a doubt!!
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It is surprising that this film is a 12a because the clichéd, far-fetched nature of the piece seems more suitable to a film directed at young children. The inner child inside me did sub-consciously grip me to the story of Santiago Munez, however, as a film, the storyline was weak and there were elements of unrealistic, far-fetched nonsense throughout the piece which simply could not be ignored.Without being too ruthlessly harsh, from a viewers perspective, the general storyline seemed poorly thought-out. In addition some of the acting at times was underwhelming. The main saving grace for the piece was that the cinematography was very good and out-shined the sub-standard acting and blatant plot flaws
In 'Goal' Kuno Becker plays Santiago Munez, an illegal alien living in Los Angels. Despite his hardships, Santiago loves to play soccer. So much so, that he is really quite good. Good enough to get the notice of a former scout of Newcastle United. Santiago gets the opportunity to go to England and try out for this premier football team. But if he does not make it, he will not be able to return to Los Angels. This is a heartwarming tale of one man's struggle to become something more. Despite the obstacles and the disapproval of his father (Tony Plana), he goes for the goal. Only to find that it is not going to be that easy after all.I would say this film is 'Bend it Like Beckham' meets 'Gattaca'. Not that Santiago needs to meet any DNA tests, but he is in a world that is virtually unknown to him. He has to keep secrets about himself in order to fit in because most expect him to fail. Some will even try to make him fail.
Santiago is a young man from Mxico who tries hard to make a life for him and his family in the USA, but the prospects of playing football (soccer) prove to be too strong, as he leaves home to pursue his dreams in England...for New Castle, of all teams. When I first heard about this, I was put off by the story line...a little far-fetched was my first reaction...Surely they could have based it on a kid from the hard end of New Castle who makes it in the big leagues...But I gave this a chance and I was pleasantly surprised...Football is something that I'm into...It's one of the greatest sports there is..and here the footy is directed beautifully, every kick makes you believe that it will end up in the net...The actors were all satisfactory and I loved Glenn who doesn't give up on a young man's dream....Overall a good football movie...
The best thing with goal is that it keeps you interested threw the whole movie. You don't even need to like football (soccer) to like this movie. It gave me the shivers a couple of times and gave a big smile on my face. It just gives those moments, which are the best in football. It shows pretty good the journey you go threw to become an professional footballer. And the movie shows real professionals such as Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, Raúl, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and many more. So if you're interested in football, you are going to love this movie! The movie gets 9/10 out of all the movies i have seen, but if I only think of drama, it gets a full 10.
