Simply Perfect
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I really don't understand why this movie has such a high rating. I watched the series, and hoped it would build and evolve on the qualities that made the first two seasons of the TV show (I pretend that season 3 doesn't exist). Unfortunately it wasn't to be. It's like watching mid-thirty year olds pretending they're still in high school. They don't even update their joke lines. What could have been great, turned out to be nothing but one of those 10 year reunions you attend, and during which you realise the world's moved on. It would have been better if this was never made. A mediocre end to the Veronica storyline.(Ps: It's been suggested the high ratings is because of hard-core fans who funded it via Kickstarter have flooded the ratings. Personally, if I had been one of those, I would have been even more disappointed at this product).
First of all, I haven't watched Veronica Mars TV show - ever. That's why it might be a huge mistake to watch the movie, right? I didn't know any of the characters, I didn't what had happened before... Luckily for all the viewers like me, there was a quick sum up in the beginning - what was the TV show about, the basics. It was helpful, and it made me feel less ignorant.I'll shortly comment on the techniques: cinematography was decent, but not excellent. Songs used were good, but otherwise the soundtrack was quite boring. I don't even remember what kind of music there was - and tells a lot.The murder seemed interesting, but not really a movie material. It felt too simple and almost... normal. It felt like it could've been just an episode of the show, which is of course understandable. At points I was actually waiting for a commercial break. It got more complicated luckily, but it still felt like something was missing. I was hoping for something darker. I didn't get much out of this movie. It felt bland, and not what I'd want from a murder mystery. It felt mild. I have a feeling you need to be a fan to appreciate this.
I don't remember the series, but maybe that would have helped with some of the characters and their relations. It doesn't actually matter, it is a good film, quit entertaining, has a lot of humor along side the more series detective work. It is primarily Kristen Bell as Veronica that has the snide and funny remarks, but also her farther played by Enrico Colantoni is quite good.It annoyed me a bit, that the choices go from very grownup Veronica Mars, being serious, trying out for a new job at a high-priced law firm, to seeing this falling back into the old style of the town where she grew up and went to school. I know this is what she wants, but it just seems a bit too fetched.
Tens of thousands of movies get made every year, most all of them are not worth the effort. Add this one to the list. The original series was way drawn out and rightfully ended sooner than expected.. and this film, well was totally unnecessary. It's not bad, just adds nothing and is uninteresting.. milking what had been already over-milked. The series was canceled after just three seasons, Thomas then wrote the film script continuing the storyline, which Warner Bros. opted not to fund. Bell and Thomas then launch a fund-raising campaign to produce the film through Kickstarter and accumulated almost $6 million. Released March, 2014.. to date it's grossed only $3.5 million worldwide.
