This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
I noted 10 because: - I found the film entertaining and I never got boredThe film was unpretentious and often funny The acting was descent The scenery was nice There was just enough action I was extremely surprised by the awful reputation of this filmIf you don't want to see a film many times until eventually understanding the story, and are just looking for a simply enjoyable evening that will not imply complexities, this film is not a bad choice.
Someone gave us a great tip regarding this movie and stated that we'd be very thankful if we followed it. The tip was "Don't go to watch this movie at the theater, hire the DVD" ... I've got one better, just don't bother at all! I finished to watch it on TV and still wonder why I did watch it to the end. My only explanation has to be my naivety, I could not believe it would not improve till it was all over. I won't repeat what other have already said about it yet I agree 100% with the majority of them, save the stars they gave it. For me, if I was a star giver, I would have needed negative numbers as I felt zero was too much. I actually can't see any Bourne association with this piece of excrement, but used it since many reviews I read here seems to feel there was some "plagiarism" if I'm excused for using the term. It was just bad... I cringe when I see good actors advertising products; although I have enjoyed G Clooney in coffee adds along with other well crafted commercials that use well known actors, nonetheless I feel it's an immoral practice, especially when the product does not live up to its presentation. In the case of this movie this is exactly what we get great actors' names to attract our attention, then vacuum! And this is another side of this film that many did resent, a vehicle for merchandise advertisement. In that regard I'm quite immune and grateful for it but it did not help me to find anything good about "boring obscurity of day" So do remember to skip it all together. Don't thank me for it, but don't blame me for not making the warning strong enough. (did you notice? I ticked the spoiler box!
Now I know why the movie business is almost in terminal decline. Successful movies are comic book franchises desperately trying to get away with deep darkness mixed with CGI, while the unsuccessful like this merely copy anything that's passing by and feature endless product placement.T without a Spanishhe style is all Bourne. You know jump cutting for endless chases (both car and on foot), and then stop for breath while someone explains a laughable creaky plot with a sombre serious face. Oh, and, of course, the real villain is a rogue in the CIA. Bruce Willis takes a paycheck for 30 minutes' of non-effort to set the ball rolling, while his son, henry Cavill then tries to chase down who kidnapped the rest of his family. Apparently daddy did a naughty thing and took a briefcase from some very violent and angry people! OOoooh! The acting tries, but cannot fight a long struggle against a terrible script and St Vitus Dance directing. The plot holes mount up. The reveals you don't care about. Both Sigourney Weaver and Henry Cavill get up and walk away from upturned cars with the merest trickle of blood! Weaver shoots down several Spanish pedestrians in the street and has a ten minute mayhem of a car chase without a Spanish policeman or car in sight! Oh, and Colm Meaney flies in from his Majorca home for forty second cameo at the end.Sad, sad, but I think there is some Israeli involvement here because the propaganda about how wonderful Mossad is at fighting terrorism is stuck right in your face. It started out like an exotic British thriller from the late 50s/early 60s with someone like Laurence Harvey or Richard Todd and morphed into a car crash of a ... well, it just wasn't a movie really.
It wasn't very long into this film before I began to realize that I was going to give this film a low rating. I was thinking a 6...then down to a 5...then down to a 4, then down to a 3. I'm even debating whether a "3" isn't being generous. But, my generosity is only because I got to thinking...what would I do, put in a situation where my family has been kidnapped and/or killed, and I had no idea whatsoever about what was happening or why. How hyper would I be? And that's what the son character is here -- hyper and disorganized. Even so, the violence here is unprecedented and unnecessary. The general theme here seems to be to get the most bang for the buck, whether some of it makes sense or not. It's another of those films where you might wonder how no one ever saw that things were going wrong The primary actors here (other than thug heavies) are Henry Cavill (who does okay as the confused son and the script he has to work with), Sigourney Weaver who just seems like a cardboard cutout in this film, Bruce Willis who is interesting for as long as he is around, and Verónica Echegui as the woman who becomes involved in the situation. The characters in the movie are simply out of control, and clearly, so was the director. If he never makes another film, it will be too soon. Perhaps the French would be well-advised to stick with their worshiping of Jerry Lewis...at least that would be more productive. The lucky one here was Brice Willis -- his character died fairly soon into the film. I'm rather surprised that this film was a career-ender for much of the cast.
