The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Ten minutes into the film, you have the thing figured out. Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) move into a nice home which they got a good deal on because the neighboring house had a double homicide. The daughter killed both her parents. They never found the daughter, but the son who was away at the time now lives in the home. At this point I lead a collective groan in the movie theater.Perennial teen Jennifer Lawrence, who apparently got hungry in between "Hunger Games" consented to play the ever helpful high school teen rock band singer. Mom works at a hospital and is over protective of Jennifer's movie virginity. This was a fair "B" movie mystery thriller. The script was good, but wasn't that great. Having someone the caliber of Jennifer Lawrence star in it, didn't add anything to the feature other than a box office attraction. Her fans will surely overrate this film. Let's not kid ourselves it is 3 1/2 stars even with Miss Lawrence. Predictable with a good head fake. Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity. Some immature teen swearing.
Worst movie ever. Have never seen such meaningless picture.
PROS: Something simple to say good about this movie would be how terrific the plot line is in the movie. Everything made sense. There wasn't anything out of place or basic, most importantly there was nothing basic. I don't normally like to comment on the creativity of a movie, because that is subjective, but I will with this movie. I have never watched a movie that was so compelling. You were able to ignore the cons, because all you wanted was to figure out the premise of why the main character does what he does.CONS: Why Jennifer, why? I really love Jennifer Lawrence as an actress, I really do, but in this film she just sucked. The reason the acting felt so dull to me was because I had higher expectations for the cast, MAX THIERIOT from disconnect, and JENNIFER LAWRENCE from Hunger Games, but none of them could actually portray any real genuine emotions. I just sat and watched fake people being fake scared which made it hard for me to actually be scared. To add on, you have an ending which is so worthless and uninteresting. They had such a great idea and plot, then you get to the end and are left with the most cliché out of all endings. To top it all off you get a movie that is so poorly marketed and so poorly designed. Movie cover is awful, title is irksome, and the trailer is false, so overall you are stuck with a less than mediocre film with poor advertisement to make me not even want to watch it in the first place.www.chorror.com
The House at the End of the Street (2012): Dir: Mark Tonderai / Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, Elisabeth Shue, Eva Link, Gil Bellows: First off the house isn't located at the end of a street. A street would be lined with houses and lights and mailboxes. This is more less a house at the end of a vacant dirt road in the middle of nowhere. The recycled plot regards a mother and daughter, played by Elisabeth Shue and Jennifer Lawrence who move into a house that is located near another house where a girl murdered her parents four years prior. The house is occupied by the son of the deceased victims. He is scrutinized by locals but Lawrence strikes up a curiosity when she is given a drive home. Director Mark Tonderai renders this a laugh fest. Before Lawrence is picked up, the rain suddenly falls and it comes off as corny. Lawrence is a fine actress but she plays a total airhead here. Her entry into the house next door has her nosing about like she owns the place and it just comes off as dumb. Then we have Max Thieriot as the son next door who secretly shelters his psychotic sister in the basement. Another dimwitted move regards a scene where Lawrence is tied to a chair. A cop comes to the door and there are baby speakers present, so it would make sense to gag Lawrence. Instead she is told that no one would hear her, which makes no sense. Shue plays the over the top over protective mother, and Eva Link plays that nut case sister next door. Gil Bellows plays a cop who needs to be retrained so to do his job without viewers complaining how idiotic he is. This film should be locked in a basement and never seen again. Score: 1 / 10
