Best movie ever!
Absolutely Fantastic
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Box office take would indicate that folks want more comic book adventures, prefer to be amused instead of inspired, and sometimes because of this, worthy films get sidelined because they are not sensational. At a time in the culture when so many people in our culture want to blame everybody else for their inability to rise above their circumstances, to change their bad habits or escape their addictions. I'm a sucker for films that show the opposite, that demonstrate that with applied intelligence and determination, a man or woman can better themselves and those around them; that's one reason I enjoyed Antwone Fisher; there are numerous others.Perhaps the story is familiar, but in this case the lead actor, Derek Luke, is so compelling and attractive as a human being, the supporting cast is so convincing and persuasive, and Denzel Washington's directing so compact and professional, that the flaws disappeared for me and my personal involvement was complete. This is a film about overcoming the past with it's heart in the right place and is a pleasure to watch.
I just watched Antwone Fisher on BRAVO. What an awesome movie and incredible young man. This movie is a must see for anyone who is dealing with how to overcome childhood abuse and abandonment as an adult. Denzel Washington puts in an outstanding performance as well as the young man who plays Antwone Fisher. Kleenex alert--Feel good and tearful. The most heartrending moment is when he finally meets his mother, who he was taken away from at 2 months of age. And one of the most courageous was when he stood up to his abusive foster mother and sister. I saw this movie on Bravo in 2008 and only wish I had known about it years ago. Definitely a movie to add to my DVD collection.
This is one of my all time favorites. Simple story about a complicated sailor (Derek Luke)prone to emotional outbursts. He starts seeing a naval psychologist (the fabulous Denzel Washington) who helps him sort through his demons, reflect on his past, and find the family he never knew. Raised in an abusive foster home, he is determined to make something of himself, and try to put the daunting past behind him. Along the way he gets a girlfriend who helps him and encourages him to find himself, and search for his roots. One of the coolest endings in a movie. I get teary-eyed every time.AWESOME movie!!!
I was flicking through the TV channels and ended up on the Antwone Fisher story. for me as a white Australian woman, this really a movie that should be told over and over and over, till anyone who thinks it's fine to treat people different because of color will never treat them different again. it's a happy, sad, heart warming and joyful at the same time. the next time i flick to see whats on the telly, i really hope it;s a great movie like this one was. threw family's falling apart then years later getting together, it's worth all the tears on the way. it does not matter how are we get hit down threw life, as any color of race, we all survive and love the people that are there for us threw the tough times and there at the other end. my though is never let life pull you so down that you don't think you could ever get up again. as life is really way to short. so go and live life your going to die threw the night.
