Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Good concept, poorly executed.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
There is no end in sight to curiosity about unlikely couples with decades of age difference. Well here the couple finding themselves in a very hard to define type of relationship consist of the actors Michael Caine, age 78 at the time of the filming, and the lovely and soulful Clémence Poésy, age 29 respectively. This film is quite educational for people who keep wondering what is possible and what definitely is not achievable in a relationship with almost 50 years age difference, and what a couple like this might actually talk about between them and what not. The acting is absolutely world class even in the smallest roles, let alone the lead couple who give their particular situation and the twists it will lead them to amazing credibility. The international production has resulted in many impressive shooting locations beautifully captured on film, yes real film. Both intrinsically sad and optimistic about the power of love in spite of everything, Last Love will leave you in tears but in a good way. Do yourself a favor and see it, you might learn a thing or two about life you didn't know before.
It is nice movie to watch but would be much better if main character did not kill himself, and what is worse in the second attempt. Also, end was slopped with Pauline getting heritage which really had no relevance with the story. Its like for the author happiness, success and justice is to be rich. On the other hand film is enjoyable, characters are normal persons, they care about each other and Paris is beautiful.
OK, first and foremost I think the best comparison is the Notebook on Steroids. Unlike the Notebook I like the real life characters and family struggles, but you have to drop the creepy old man philosophy. So many people are obsessed with old man, young girl "Daddy" complex analogies. What some of the reviews are missing is the true love Michael Caines character had for his wife, and how well he portrayed it. Hans Zimmer music was spot on and the transitions were amazing! I only gave it an 8 because of the ending. My personal opinion is they did such a good job building the characters that the ending fell a little flat. Other than that I highly recommend this movie. You will love it if you have an open mind, and leave your personal issues and opinions behind.
With odd characters! At two hours long this story becomes a real challenge to keep the viewers attention and not to get a tired butt. The emotional 'distresses' the three lead characters are burdened with are not explained in depth enough -- at least not for me. The story is a bit shallow for the state of mind we find in each character and the daughter being the most interesting is written out of the plot way too quickly. And the Pauline character is just not believable to the point of her involvement with father and son.I found the story choppy and Michael Caine seemed a bit labored in creating the suicidal and lonely Matthew.
