Futurama: Bender's Game
November. 03,2008 PG-13When Leela is insulted by a group of space-rednecks (like regular rednecks, but in space) she enters the Planet Express ship in a demolition derby. She emerges victorious, but when she brings the damaged ship home and the Professor sees the fuel gauge, he's enraged by the hit he's going to take at the Dark Matter pump. Now the crew have to find a way to break Mom's stranglehold on starship fuel, even if they have to wade through a Lord of the Rings-inspired fantasy-land to do it!

Load of rubbish!!
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Blistering performances.
This is my favorite Futrama movie so far. The jokes are hilarious and there is an interesting plot and theme. Dr Zoidberg is funny as always, and the D&D theme will amuse every fan of Futurama (after all, there is a little nerd in all of us, right?).Nibbler is central to one of the plots in the movie, and he's cute and fuzzy race is a welcome addition back into the fold as Fry and the Planetary express crew fight against Mom's robot empire. One of the best cartoon movies ever! I don't know how some of the other reviews can say that the jokes in this latest installment of Futurama fall flat, they are outright hilarious, a lot better than the 2nd one. Bender really shines in this movie, going crazy and turning into a giant LOTR nerd. I give it a 4/5. Go watch it now!
Matt Groening had spawned another winner with Futurama: Bender's Game. I would had never viewed Dungeons & Dragons as being that imaginative. I played Dungeons & Dragons when I was much younger, but did not possess the imagination that Bender displayed with that version. Bender was accused of not having an imagination at first, but when he finally grasped one, Bender could not separate fiction from reality. Frankly, I would had settled for Bender's version of "reality" because at least there were surprises at every corner. Sometimes surprises are better than the same mundane ruts we had forced ourselves into. The final battle between dark matter reminded me so much how we are dependent upon oil from foreign countries. At least the professor was smart enough to create another crystal that would eliminate dependency on dark matter when they were within a certain range of each other. I would certainly play this version of Dungeons & Dragons, mainly for the creativity and most importantly, for a more positive outcome for the world today. Futurama: Bender's Game was certainly worth the viewing pleasure and with Matt Groening at the helm, you cannot miss.
When I was younger I watched almost every night the show that was and still is my favourite TV show of all time, yes I'm talking about The Simpsons, well the old Simpsons from Season1 to like Season 12. I remember that on National TV two episodes aired pee night and once after The Simpsons Futurama was shown, it was the very first time I watched a complete Futurama episode and I clearly remember that was the episode in which Bender is a were- car, now checking I know is the episode "The Honking". I remember that I was kind of exciting for thinking I was going to watch regularly Futurama but the next day it was showed another thing, no more Futurama! Certainly was strange but some years later when cable TV was contracted in my house I watched more of this show and actually since like 3 years ago I own a couple of DVD sets, the first two and that are the only Seasons that I have seen complete. I love Futurama, I think it is a truly awesome show and is a real shame it never gained a place in the programming of National TV of Mexico. For all is very strange to see that Futurama has a IMDb user rating of 9.3/10 with 19, 509 votes as for today and The Simpsons has a IMDb user rating of 9.2/10 with only 392 votes! The weird fact is the votes that The Simpsons has since for example South Park has a rating of 9.3/10 with 29, 285 votes and even Bender's Game has 2, 432 votes. Anyway, certainly I had interest in watching the new stuff of Futurama and I have been seeing the DVDs at my local store but until a couple of days ago I finally decided to get one of the three available, I got Bender's Game that is the third one just because it was the cheapest of the three but and since I really liked Bender's Game I will be getting the other Futurama straight to DVD movies. Just like with The Simpsons I prefer to watch Futurama in Spanish, the original dubbing in Spanish is really great and for me is by far more enjoyable than the original voices but unfortunately here there's a new cast and frankly I missed the old one so I decided to watch this in English. Anyway, the animation here is fantastic and here we have a longer opening with a very cool Yellow Submarine-like scene that ends in a very funny way with the crazy character Nibbler to let begin this 87 minutes movie. Basically there's not a single long period of time without a good laugh and basically we have two plots during the first part, one is about Bender and Dungeons & Dragons, now Bender is Titanius Anglesmith Fancy Man of Cornwood but not only while playing Dungeons & Dragons so he will quickly end in the robot insane asylum. The other plot is about dark matter, less dark matter and the price of the fuel is higher so certainly Mom is the person behind all of this and her three sons are on fire, they will be owl exterminators ("thanks for the crystal"- hilarious) and the funnier son Igner will know the secret of who is his father. Leela's "adventure" with the anger stuff made me remember the South Park movie since Leela will be suffering sort of like Cartman suffered. Then when the two plots comes together we are in a new world, actually in Cornwood ad we have more Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings stuff and Star Wars stuff, is a very funny final part of the movie (check the hilarious stuff with Fry -do- as Gollum!). This was a very sad movie for the Nibblonians! Then I really liked Bender's Game, it is good Futurama stuff, a lot of fun!
I have already said it on another commentary but I like repeating it : I had an enormous admiration for the TV programme Futurama because it shook sarcastic, incisive and irreverent humor with intelligent concepts of sci-fi,exotic characters and a well structured mythology. That twist resulted on one of the best comedies the TV has ever produced.Unfortunately, this series was very underrated, and after four seasons of declining ratings,Futurama was cancelled in mid-2003.But,the surprising DVD sales of the series and the success of the repetitions of the series on channels like Cartoon Network, made the executives from Fox to re-considerate their (stupid) decision and now,we can enjoy the rebirth of Futurama, not on TV,but on movies made straight-to-DVD.But,as a huge fan of Futurama,I have to say Futurama : Bender's Big Score and Futurama : The Beast with a Billion Backs,in spite of being funny and entertaining, did not leave me completely satisfied. It seems that the creators of Futurama perfectly dominated the half an hour format (22 minutes without the commercials) but they have found difficulties in telling fluid and natural stories in the format of a full-length film. That problem is still on Futurama : Bender's Game.Minute by minute,Bender's Game made me laugh pretty much and it kept me entertained. But the whole does not result totally satisfactory, because the film suffers from lack of cohesion and from a fractured narrative. At the end of the first half hour, there is a sudden change of tone and it seems a totally different movie from there...in other words, the film keeps being funny and entertaining but that sudden change makes the film a little bit forced.I think the best format for Futurama was the one for TV but I have to be grateful for back to have Futurama. As the other Futurama films,Bender's Game is entertaining but I expected more from it.Still,I can recommend it because I had a good time watching it.
